Jeremy Clarkson owns one. It is said to be the ultimate coupe/grand tourer.Anyway at over RM1 m for a new one , it remains a dream for most of us.However the earlier batchprevious model , R129 (1990-2002), namely pre 1995 cars are now selling for under RM150k. In fact I met someone recently who sold his 1994 car for RM125k.What do u guys think of the SL.Would u go for one?Lets talk!

Have not driven or sat in the latest SL but have clocked a fair number of miles on the previous generation R129 SL320. Hard to believe an R129 can be had for below RM150k but at that price its value for money (assuming its in excellent condition).

Many in KL are going for the 300SL-24. The older 300SL is 12valve as you know. The newer SL320 (and above) has a significant jump in price. The SL280 is all show and no go (think heavy body). The 300SL-24/SL320 is a good compromise. The SL500 V8 is the best where performance is concerned (but the road tax and petrol will kill you). The top-of-the-range SL600 V12 is a gas guzzler and has no significant improvement over the SL500 to warrant the price difference.

The car is a fantastic cruiser / GT. Its not a sports car. I've taken it on a round trip from London to Scotland sometime in late autumn. Its so perfect for two. Any more and you wish you had an eject buttom hidden somewhere. The convertible roof is a marvel. Earlier cars may have electronic gremlins but the later ones are faultless.

Get an immaculate car (FSH is a must), maintain it well and it will service you for many motoring miles with a smile. It may be a generation behind the latest model but it still turns heads.

yeah they're awesome looking cars these SLs...i still stare at them eventhough they're like a decade old..the design is just superb..
my uncle had a SL320 with some super nice Lorinser 18s & its a chick magnat!! hehe..
prices they're commanding for them now is definately affordable compared to what we pay for them over here...though i've only ever seen SL500 & SL600s..no smaller models & they range from AUS50k & more! mad!
also would be nice to find one that also has a spare solid roof..

Buy it! It's built like a tank. I hear that the 12v are better than the 24v 3.0. The only thing that is worrying is the roof mechanism + the replacement softtop.

12v only rated with 138kw whereas the 24v has 170kw. Off the line 12v is faster but once you hit 3K rpm it's no match for the 24v. By the way the 24V is twin cam.

i still like the 1980's ones which was driven by Bobby Ewing in 'Dallas' and last i heard a good quality ones is around RM100k++.
