Hi all, I am a newbie here, hope that could receive positive and informative advise, pls be gentle :p .my current ride is the 4 RINGS OOOO for the last 5 years and it has served me well, bout to get my wifey a E46 2.0 Japan Spec "New Face Lift". I went to couple of Dealers to browse and test feel the marque... dammmn the beemer is a surety...My 4 RINGS gave me comfort and stable but the E46 is different... the thrill of driving oooze when taking corners and acelarating.Questions :-a) What is the diffrent between the New Facelift and the Old Face:eek: . (Which is new downwards corner light or up wards.b) Why certain E46 have controls in the steering ... which model does that.c) Was informed by a dealer in "LDP" area that to maintain a E46 is cheaper than E36 .... any truths in this.Again pls be gentle ....:) still new to BMWregards

Welcome..

I agree that A4 give you the comfort while E46/E36 will give you the driving pleasure. Its a rear wheel drive of BMW thats do the trick :=) .

Check out the maintainance threat in the forum and you will be able to tell of E36 or E46 is more expensive to maintain.

Good luck on your search.

Downwards corner light = pre facelift; upwards corner light = facelift

Those buttons are called multi funtion steering. Basically it has controls for audio and cruise control. Any e46 year 2000 and above should have multi function steering.

c) Was informed by a dealer in "LDP" area that to maintain a E46 is cheaper than E36 .... any truths in this.
Maybe the dealer is trying to sell you e46. You can browse our maintenace thread to get an idea. I am driving an e46 328i and just bought an e36 318is but have yet got anything done to it. Will let you know once I get the e36 fixed.

Is this gentle enough? Hope so.

Which LDP dealer is that bro? Let me know if you'd like any help for some reputable dealers to shop for your new ride.

hi all cheers thanx mate for the reply ... too afraid that it was not responded...

Thank you for the comments DolCeAddicT tamade7 geoffreylee...
I am bit comfortable with the 4 rings maintainance and repairs cost as been living with it for 5 years... now to venture to another marque...

I went to the dealer near LDP (Kontena Nasional) sorry cant remember the name but its the one smack in the middle as you enter on the right hand side... been doing couple of homeworks on the expected maintanance cost and its bout the same plus minus...

Bout the model in particular cost a bit confused with all the Japs import as some are 1.8 2.0, some with controls on the steering some with sunroofts etc etc some model are M series and some with compact engine etccc... well i still doing my research until i am truly satisfied with my search ....

my target is atleast a 2.0 new facelift sunroofs ... are there any other norm spec that the ckd & imports have significant differnce..

cheers

CBU cars may come with alot of additional specs:-
sport seats
harmon kardon sound system
TV / Navigation
17 or 18 inch rims
sports suspension
sun roof
(note the 03 and 04 CKD cars did come with sports suspension and 17/18 rims too)

UK CBU cars are normally loaded with specs but most probably may have high mileage...Japanese spec cars have very low mileage but specs are not as generous as the UK ones.....alot of the japan spec cars come with the m tech sport kit which adds a bodykit, 17 inch rims and sports suspension

However, 1 spec to be wary of is the sunroof....its good to have if a smoker but normally the sunroof rubber seals tend to harden over time if parked in the sun often and water leaks into the roof causing rust issues.

if looking at models, from 2001 onwards (facelift models only)
318 - 2.0l 4 cyclinder
320 - 2.2l 6 cylinder
325 - 2.5l 6 cylinder
330 - 3.0l 6 cylinder

best of the pick is the 325 in my opinion.....
