dude on the top gear test track it was 1 sec slower than the 911 GT3 !

now that is fasst
Dude, that's just on 1 lap. imagine if it was doing 20 laps with the 911 GT3, it would be 20 seconds behind!

As much as the CSL has been lauded (or not), used car values of the CSL in the UK have been falling faster than a brick off the side of the Petronas Twin Towers.

So much so that the value of a 2003 CSL (last year of production) is now almost on par with that of a 2003 M3.

As such, a brilliant opportunity now awaits those who can (still) obtain 2nd hand APs for cars from the UK.

THE CSL really is something else... the induction howl when the "sport" button is pressed is really... fierce.

But if you wanted a track weapon, the CSL is still way too compromised by it's lack of suitable brakes and (I've read) unoptimised geometry. ESPECIALLY for its stock PS Cups. Which is quite silly.

Still, I would love to have one!

definately love to have one, its a dream to have one.....but then again a M3 would be easier to obtain than a CSL. so i may be pushing it

As for a Cayenne Turbo (non power pack) vs....

vs. M3, no competition there, the M3 will whoop the CTs ass anyday. No CSL needed. The engine response of the CT is glacial compared to the N/A M3, with noticable turbo lag. Of course, the M3 must be in an appropriate gear!

vs. 530d, on the first half of the speedo, ie. till 150km/h, the 530d aquits itself suprisingly well! Esp from 0-50/60km/h (ie. city traffic), the 530d just romps away from the CT! All that torque and instant response! But of course, once the CT gets into its stride...

just watched the video, not bad i say, if you compare what cars it was up against

wah.. 530d that fast meh? i know it's fast.. but can keep up with cayenne t? all that torque can only translate to wheel spins when it leaves the toll gate.. :D
i thought it's 6.5 secs to the century? and i think even non-power package cayenne t also a second faster than that?

anyhow, just wanna get some info from other people who might have had the opportunity and experience playing with these cars.. how much faster the csl is from m3? off-track la.. emm.. half car length max? wud the csl whoop the m3?

Yeah, the 530d is suprisingly fast, I tell you... If only BMW Malaysia would bring the 535d in...

Just watched the Best Motoring video... hasn't anyone noticed that the 911T is an AUTO?! That's hardly fair is it?

Plus, these "tests" are sooo subjective... the NSX-R obviously has the best driver (as is always the case in BM videos with foreign cars, the jap car will always have the best driver), and the driver in the Ferrari is absolutely hopeless if he can let a CSL pass him.

It just goes to show it's the driver that makes the difference, not the car.

Gan-san is really one hell of a nutter driver.... the older there are, the nutter they get....

From rennlist (porshe)

Wow...nice to see someone doing that. I haven't done it w/ my CT yet, but I did it on the '05 M3....even in that launch control mode where it revs to 5k rpm and drops the clutch, I couldn't get minus 5 seconds. This hasn't been just my experience but that of 2 friends who have them as well. Seems BMW is a tad optimistic on their numbers.

On the other hand, I always seem to be able to beat Porsche's quoted 0-60 times (as do most magazines). Anyway, I'll have to get a tool for the CT and try it. I've noticed both Road & Track and Car and Driver quote it at 5.0 seconds in the back of their magazines...I was curious to try.

In an episode of fifth gear they put up the CSL vs. M3 on a lap and the CSL was a massive 2 seconds faster than the M3. They even superimposed the videos together and you can really see the difference in handling, acceleration.

I saw an M3 CSL in Taman T.A.R. last december. Though I never saw anymore.

Again today there was a familiar sound.....yesss the CSL shot passed me and DingChavez today at around 2.45am. But this time were at Mosin across the road and this time we could see its true shock and awe. It just made other cars going along that road look slow and shut everyone else up at the mamak who were talking about how fast thier Honda Civic was......
