yes, 240 for 2.0,1.9,1.8,1.7,1.6, why??? i dunno
and yes and no, 260, for 2.5 and the 2.3, and some 2.4 oso
but 260 was oso matched with 2.7,3.0,3.2,3.5, why so....?
i oso dunno......
but then there was the 265, 280,224,226, etc ,etc
theoretically it was economical to have a box to fit a wide range of models, so interchangeable boxes where possible to a certain extent
to answer ur question, firstly you shud try a set on and actually feel and make up ur own mind
secondly, there will be people telling stories, good lar, bad lar, so-so lar, good deal, bad deal, etc, etc, in the end you gotta make up your own mind, based on your own judgement and not what some hotshot tells you....
....unless of course the hotshot was a munich trained engineer, has all the qualifications, and has all the experience in a highly specialised area, e.g. e30,e34,e36,
so in the end, there is no difference in using a 240 or 260 box, only difference are the ratios, which would match or make the ratios to your upmost advantage
eh?..the getrag manual box for 6-potters can fit 4 potters??..hmm...i thought the bell housing was a different dimension altogether??.... hmmmm.. i wonder.... guys? anyone clarify?..thanx heaps!..Originally posted by teejay@Jul 5 2005, 01:48 AM
fabs,
can fit 4 potter, but there is a weight penalty of extra 4-5 kg, but since its midway, there wont be much difference in day to day driving ,unless there's plenty of track visits.....
there is also the difference in ratios between the 240 and 260, so my guess is a review of the rear diff is also advisable, but you really need to look at it side by side ,multiplication values plus plotting of your torque curves so that the shift is within your powerband and it will not fallout too far below or off your peak.
this calculations will actually save you $$$ in long terms of fuel consumption, maybe improve your mileage further......
flywheel and clutch goes together, so you can use your current setup with the 260
bro, are you sure about that?Originally posted by gOdspEed@Jul 5 2005, 10:58 AM
i dun mind experiencing no improvement in terms of pick-up..
yupp.. it's still on... a 14mile drag..... what say u.....?Originally posted by bob@Jul 4 2005, 10:20 PM
bro, are you sure about that?
i thought we are going for a drag sprint? hehheheh...
The preffered ratio for the M40 would be 4.10 as this is the standard ratio on all M40 running on manual transmission. The 3.73 is usable but you would experience a loss in accelaration but better top-end and cruising speeds.....in the end, you decide what suits your driving style best.Originally posted by gOdspEed@Jul 4 2005, 09:58 PM
bro...
......what is the best lsd ratio for the m40?... is 3.73 too big???.... or 3.25 will be just fine?.... i dun mind experiencing no improvement in terms of pick-up.. but i'll be more interested to feel some difference in mid and top end......thanks...
