Low Coolant and temp up Warning message on screen after few hours drive

Dear sifus,Last month im having the above problem and when to fixed it, change water pump and few hose. recently, i noticed when i drive more than 2 hours these message pop up from the screen. Few days ago, i went to sent at autobhan sunway. they did pressure test and whatsoever and found no leaking at all including radiator,pump and hose, everything looks good. all these happens everyday which is i had to topup some water almost everyday before i start the car about 1 litter. im driving e60 and millage about 110k. Need good advise from all sifus here. il get fedup already till now no one can detect what is going on with my car. any reckon workshop? what should i do?Regards,Izz

Hi lizardizz, I am facing the same issue as yours with my E60. Read Astroboy's posting and was surprised its the engine cover plate which is the culprit. Please keep us updated of the solution to your prob.

Item 16 is your heat exchange for the transmission, if this heat exchanger is compromised, water can go into your gearbox and possible oil stain in your coolant resevoir.

I found 2 types of cooling system diagram for your car, dunno which 1 is yours.. it serves as a guide on what you have replaced and what not replaced..

M54B25 is a very reliable and trusty engine. Do your engine shakes during cold start? Any white smoke in the morning or after 5-8 hours idle? If so, I suspect a blown head gasket, where coolant leaks into combustion chamber. Normally the symptoms is overheating when you rev the car hard like going to Genting.

Do a pressure test and also check your coolant hose for high pressure.

so far no engine shakes when cold start. i suspect 2 things here, blown head gasket or loose cover (refering astroboy blog). Today cant make it to workshop...banyak kerja...will sent this saturday. but i dunno how long it takes for them to repair it. thx again guys.

hye guys,

my e60 now is back online. did travel to genting without any trouble of low coolant or temp issue. did sent to workshop in puchong. they tested and waited for the whole day, there is no leaking at all. engine oil and gearbox oil looks good cun cun...after 6 hours of searching they managed to find out that, it was the expansion tank for coolant problem no leak, but the pressure from bottom push the coolant to leak out. Ofcoz, when you do the pressure test, the coolant been pressure from top to bottom. So they manage to change the expansion tank with the stopper ( i dunno what they call it). Been couple of workshop they suspected water go into piston and bla bla bla...which is gonna cost me more than 10k. pheewww..save me a lot of money cheers guys

This is the part below the coolant expansion tank which is leaking - part no PAGG-GF 30
Don't simply change the hoses coz the leak may not be from the hose.

expansion tank leaks are common. even the caps can leaks. normally if you need to top up.. there is a leak.

i change all my hoses and expansion tank when i got my car. and at every 100K regardless whether it leaks or not. its cheaper that way.. hehehe

Hi Astroboy, my radiator has a slight leak - my E46 - should i change back to the ori brand Behr coz i changed this 3 years ago and it leak again

Finally solved my coolant leaks i believe. As documented here, changed 1 hose, 1 backplane cover, expansion tank connector and backplate and radiator . Finally dont have to fill water every 2 days !

Radiator Cap. (Reutter) - RM 30
Coolant (BMW). - RM 30
Labour. - RM 80
Total. - RM 425

I don't think there any parts left I haven't changed in the coolant system

How about the heater pipe if got in your car...
Ive change mine both the heater pipe...there is crack at the joint...
