Low Brake Pedal - E39

Pening kepala .. When i took delivery of my E39 530 couple of months ago , the brake was good - like a normal E39. it was on ori disc and Textar pads. First thing I did was to change all disc and pads - ori BMW. Thats went the problem starts. The brake pedal is low as compared to other E39. So low that i feel no 'bite' at all even after 3000 km of bedding. So - i have changed to date (ori BMW not OEM) ServoMasterpumpAll brake hose but the problem persist. It is slightly better when i changed the servo but not as good as other E39 still. Short of changing to BREMBO - what could be other things that i missed. Bleeding was done countless time - and the pressure seems ok. I have search the net - and it seems to be quite common .. u think so ?
 
changing discs and pads does not require the brake fluid to be disturbed.straight forward bolt on job.how was the ori disc before?if it was real thin and if the mech fitted new discs without watching the overflow of the reservoir fluid(will definitely happen) then perhaps the fluid could have spilled in the compartment,which made the mech want to clean up and maybe bleed the system.
if the brakes are spongy as well then that's a sure sign that there is air in the system.maybe air in the abs unit?
 
I flushed the brake fluid when i changed the disc and pads. Just want everything to be new ..

And for the M5 booster - hmmm .. good racun. I might have access to one over here .. :top:
 
I drive a E36 and I changed mine to the E36 M3 Evo one. Due to the shorter master cylinder design the brake feel is much much better. The brake pedal travel is reduced almost in half compared to the stock design. The brake servo looks the same though between the M and Non-M variant for E36 as compared to the E39.

boss...if u change to BBK, it might make the situation worse as the calipers are bigger and might need more pressure to deploy.

beg to differ - I have personally tested an E39 with AP 6 pots in SG - using the ori booster .. marvellous ..
 
Not sure if the E39 has one-way valves or not like we have on the E36 that's connected to the brake servo. Could be those that are faulty.

but b4 the APs, was the brake pedal also low? or it was fine? my 0.002 cents la...dun shoot me, i drive old car only :p

btw, Im' not sure if the E39 is the same as E34, but that day I changed the hoses in the brake master cylinder from a 540i. made a difference in pedal feel and clamping pressure.

But as for the valve - good point .. let me check on that.

Gonna try back the old pads - textar ..

So LamSing - if u see a white E39 in your rear view mirror - move over ... This car - no brake one ..

and BTW - Aiseyman, Siput and 6 giar .... that's why need power brakes ...

its not the rubber hoses, its the metal ones that comes with the master cylinder, and for the E34/E32 i think its specific to the master cylinders. the ones on the 540 were much much bigger than on the 525i's, the diameters are different. fandango also upgraded, and his pedal feel is damn nice. but maybe for the E39's TU's they standardised??

hehehe....if now fully loaded, u need BBK la to complete the set. feisald'zul said its been too long since he tunjuk power.....:eek:
 
535i, solved your problem? I am still puzzled. Maybe removing the siput and put it into my car will help :)
 
i remember after installing the 540 calipers, discs, servo and mister cylinder, the brake pedal was raised. then i asked ah fai to lower the pedal like before, and he did so by adjusting something near the brake pedal.

So maybe if it can be adjusted lower, it can be adjusted higher again...but I dunno what he adjusted...need to ask him...but then again e39 might be different...

all brake lines has been cleaned and blasted with air incl the metal one.

I am not upgrading my brakes coz the standard one is good enough. It was nice bfore.
The issue is - why is it not, now ..

The issue is ur too old for the siput & 6 speed:cool:
