Hi. I went to Kajang used car dealer..at Sg Ramal Luar , paid bookin, and test drive E46 318i,2.0cc UK spec year 2001, engine N42. The car was soooooo heavy i.e as if the car has no torque. Need to press the pedal till RPM3000 and 4000 then only can show some acceleration. I feel like it is very very under power. I never had the chance to hit 100km/h mark coz the traffic was heavy. Since I never owned BMW , I need some help from any E46 owner of the same specs to give some info whether is it normal for 318,2.0cc to behave like that? Or is RPM 3000 and 4000 is not enuff to generate enuff torque and acceleration?.. I HAVE NO IDEA AT ALL. BLURRRR. From idle position (at junction), i pressed the pedal (I'm afraid to press all the way down) but the car feels VERY heavy. I feel my Myvi has double the torque compared to that E46. I drove another E46 a month a go specs 318i 1.8cc and if I'm not mistaken , the torque was a lot better even for 1.8cc. I complaint to the salesman and he promise to rectify such problem. he said the car need some GEAR BOX setting. is it true by adjust the GEAR BOX setting, the torque will come???.I have no idea..... Is it possible that someone here (who lives around serdang, kajang area) help to test drive the car and comment?? Appreciate help. Thanks

Thanks alot bro.. will definitely do that by sending to workshop for checking. At least can narrow down to gear box checking first

Just curious...how much cost for GB overhaul???

If u really just want 2.0......my mechanic is selling his car....call me if u interested at 0122207630 ....Tq

Get the 1.9. Much more reliable. I had no major problems for 9 years of ownership. Also, 1.9 cheap to maintain compared to 325. Up to you if you want the power of the 325. The 2.0 engine is known to have slush, so be very careful.

Let me get it right. First you pay Deposit, than you test the car.

I think, salesman just as blur as you are. Besides, if i were you, i would not trust some 2nd hand car dealer to repair my BMW. Their style, is to get it fix at cheapest possible cost, for as long it lasts withing warranty period (if there is one).

Sometimes, it is wise to loose some to gain some (i am referring to our deposit).

i've heard of delete fault code, software update and reset adaptive memory for gear box but never heard of adjust gear box setting.

not confortable with the car, go look for others. you can ask for refund is the car has got problem. worst case, burn the 1k.

refurbish gearbox most likely will cost 5-7k. if unlucky, atf oil cooler (RM 6++), atf hoses (6++).

and if the engine has sludging problem which is common for 2.0 valvetronic, another 6-10k burned to change engine.

not trying to scare you but this is based on true story.

Thanks for the friendly reminder bro. I mean it..

Change engine cost around 10K?.. Not that expensive for a BMW I guess..coz new BMW car prize was over 200k....

How to personally check if the engine has sludging problem?..Can we check it by ourselves or need to bring to workshop?..Thanks

Hemm..I got a bit confused. I notice some E46 has 1765cc., 1.9cc..and 1995 as 2.0cc...

Hemmm....how do we know that it is 1.9cc??..

mine is 2.0 6 cyclinder M54. Very recently i had the same problem as u. But i able to solve it 80% , sent my car to M1 and fix the air valve licking. The remaining 20% will need me to change the ATF oil. If this both doesnt help u too , then i strongly suggest u do diagnostic or remap.
