Dear all,Had a shock of my life this morning when suddenly my n42 went into Limp Mode with EML light popping up. Car wouldn't go pass 2k rpm, basically 'limping' as would an injured person. Backtrack, I was installing my angel eyes the night before, tapped wires accordingly and then this...Was at the mech, diagnosed and it threw up error 2862 - VVT power ....mech said "VVT or Valtronic Motor KAPUT"...:2: prepared to fork out 1k (incl labour) already...got his machai to double and triple check all connections..voila...it was the POS terminal (at engine bay) where I tap the Angel Eyes to, which wasn't securely tighten, it still had slight movement...tightened it and BEHOLD!...EML poof! and Car revving to go!.... Moral of story, tighten every power or ground connection..and I mean really tight, leave no allowances whatsoever..even a 1mm looseness...will throw the car electronics off. This is because even though voltage is present but resistance isn't up to par with the stored values hence throwing system off...right Bro Aidij?Just a friendly reminder all who DIY...tighten all connections... Over and out :)

Bro Iceduke, lucky in your case is just loose connection. Bro Kby88 DIYed the angel eyes and shorted the VVT terminal with chasis. This causes the same error, VVT emergency mode but he had to replace the fuse near the battery in the boot.

Happy DIYing all :)

never happen to me before..

lol...perhaps you're lucky or perhaps the m54s aren't as sensitive as theres no valvetronic motor. The cable wasn't exactly loose but rather could be move a lil..I reckon prolly 0.2 to 0.5mm of movement? still tight just that could be move altho u'll need some effort to move it...

The M54 engine has about the same amount of sensors and electronic as the N42/N46 engine.
It not a matter of being lucky as well. I usually will tighten all nuts and bolts as I re-assemble them back.

After tightening, I usually will re-tighten or check just to make sure if I forgot or miss any.

You can never be too careful. This always have been my practice. LOL

hehehe... Jaran Singh was just being a show-off.... :p I think he too free now...
FIY, he's one of the old timers who had always been a DIY guru...

Think safe always do check back all the screw or bolts & nuts to recomformed that all have been retightened porperly...:top:
Practice make perfect...

Hi Bro Jarance,

Specifically to the place where we tap power for the angel eyes. M54 and N42 are different where there are two bolts to choose from on N42 and one on M54. The additional line is the power line for VVT/valvetronic.

Ya. 2nd line specially for valvetronic only. I burnt out the main fuse 100a of this 2nd line near the batery.
