Anyone experience the knocking sound from the steering ? When going through uneven road at low speed, experience kind of knocking feeling from the steering. You will feel that something is actually loose at the front wheels. Pls advise what parts need to be change. Got to know this problem is quite common for E46 model.

have your mech check out your steering coupling. its something like a rubber disc that isolates/dampen the road vibration from going to the steering. its located in your enginebay below the master brake cylinder. the rubber disc locks like a miniature driveshaft coupling and infact the both have similar function to insolate vibration.

a e30s steering coupling rubber can be disassemble and replace, but for a e36 it cant as is dead bolted to the coupling assembly. Not sure about your e46 but do keep us enlighten if it can be disassemble and replace.

Hi Khawcy,
Leforte is right in his description. It has to be your steering coupling because I had this problem fixed on my e36 last week at Stuttgat. The other could be steering bearings because they could sometime go together for replacement.
We are talking about RM900 for brand new coupling and RM150 for bearings plus labor RM250.
But I got mine for RM180 for a used coupling on my e36.

cheers
