qy84,

'CBU' stands for Complete Built Up (If I'm not mistaken) and 'CKD' stands for Complete Knock Down. To simplify this, CBU is imported and CKD is local assembled cars.

There are a few factors as to why the 328i is cheaper than the E46 325i :

(a) The year the cars were manufactured
(b) The condition of the cars (mileage, bodywork and such)
(c) Specs

And many other elements that's needed to take into account to evaluate prices.

The one main reason why 328i is cheaper than a 325i being other factors the same is 328i roadtax is expensive.

qy84, pls check the threads on e46 model. much discussion on this topic. again, alot of factors involved....fuel price, road tax, speed, etc.

bottom line is this, go for what you feel is the right car for you according to your budget and driving personality. checkout the threads for details.

hope you find your dream car.

E46 328 was manufactured mainly from 1999 to 2001. It's direct replacement was the 325 which came in 2001. So that's why it is cheaper, because it is an older model compared to the 325. It's not just an engine change, the introduction of the 325 saw a few technological changes, mainly drive by wire.

OK!! thx all of you guyss...

now the budget is ready, but i dont have any car knowledge... If i would like ot get a 2nd hand e46 318 or 325,

any place for me to send the car for inspection before i commit to it and how much it will cost.

ditto :top:, i think its also due to the roadtax (almost double) and horsepower difference is not alot, hence most people will go for 325i, that's y 328i is cheaper

get the 325i, BMW is famous for their in-line 6, the engine power and roar is their trademark. inspection will usually cost u around 150-200, most of the BMW workshop can do it, but make sure they have at least a GT1 dignostic system

The horsepower depends on the production year. I'd suggest you to take a look at this wiki page for all the information you need and want to know on E46 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E46

prefacelift 318i 1.9L = around 118HP
facelifted 318i 2.0L = around 143HP
325i = around 192HP (i think both pre & post facelift 325i have the same HP)

Does this mean pre-2001 E46 328 is still using the old-school wire-throttle ?
This is a good news for me. I hate fly-by-wire.

Hmmm...
