For your information, in my absence, Mr Jeffrey Ewe, the VP of BMW Club Malaysia will be representing us for the above event in S'pore tomorrow. Let's all wish him luck in elevating our club to a new level in the eyes of the entire Asian BMW Club community. It will be one of the club's 1st official appearance in a global event. Sounds good huh? We should be proud to achieve this milestone in our club history.Below is the letter I receive from International BMW Club Council regarding this event.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Regional Umbrella Organization in AsiaDear BMW Club Presidents,By now you should have received the minutes of the International Councilmeeting which was held recently in Leipzig, Germany. These minutes provide the record of the meeting between the delegates of the International Council. You will notice from the minutes that consideration was given to representation of Accepted Clubs in the Asia region. This region has witnessed considerable growth which is expected to continue in the future and the International Council is of the view that we need to ensure the correct level of representation for new clubs in this region. At present, Accepted Clubs can have issues of concern considered by bringing them to the attention of the International BMW Club Office (IBCO) or the appropriate Vice Chair person. However, the International Council wishes to explore the possibility of establishing a regional umbrella as allowed for under the current structure of representation. As you would be aware, the concept of "umbrellas" is simply to establish aregulated communication channel between clubs, the International BMW Club Office and BMW, as well as identifying club representation for International Council business and meetings. In order to give this suggestion some consideration, the International Council Board is proposing to hold its 2006 Working Meeting in Singapore and as part of this meeting provide the opportunity for representatives of Accepted Clubs in the Asia region to attend a special session to discuss the Regional Umbrella concept. At this stage (and subject to change pending finalisation of venues and travel etc), it is planned to have the meeting from 16-19 February 2006 with the umbrella discussions taking place on 18 and 19 February (Saturday and Sunday).Further details will be provided later, but we are seeking to clarify the level of interest in this meeting. If you are able to attend (or have a representative attend) could you please advise the International BMW Club Office by 30 November 2005. Please note the language of Council proceedings is English. We look forward to your response in relation to this initiative that will ensure better representation for clubs in this region.Best regardsIan BranstonChair person---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- :D

Thanks to all for the wishes and encouragements.

The purpose of this meeting organised by the International BMW club Council was to gather all the Recognised BMW clubs in Asia Pacific, this meeting was the first of it's kind and participating clubs were from Hongkong, Japan, Phillipines, Taiwan, China(Beijing), Thailand, Indonesia, Korea, Singapore and Malaysia.

Some of the issues discussed during the meeting:

1) To gather all relevant problem faced by the Asian clubs in terms of support from their respective BMW distributors.

2) Criteria in using the roundel.

3) Do's and don't of sponsorships.

4) Possible joint events and collaborations between clubs.

International BMW Club Council has also informed the representatives that due to the massive growth in Asia Pacific, they have allocated 1(one) seat in their Council Board to represent ASIA PACIFIC in their next Council meeting which will be held in South Africa this 14th October, 2006.

This elected delegate will hold a 3 year term and will be the spokesperson between the asian clubs and the Council.

Votings will be held tomorow.

Mr VP,

Good to know that the International council is aware of the challenges that the BMW clubs face in this region of the world.

Please pursue point no 1 with utmost passion as our principles here have not fully appreciated all the effort(s) that we have invested over the past four years in championing the brand and its heritage. As THE official BMW club of Malaysia, we require a strong relationship in this area if we are to flourish. Without, it would impede our growth.

In return, we should pull up our socks and streamline ourselves in accordance. I say no more leniency. This forum should be policed with greater detail( currently ok but we could always improve ourselves).

Time for us to look into managing our image. We should invest our efforts into the club and NOT the forum. The club and the forum are not the same thing. The forum exists as a meduim of communication and entertainment. The club is an organisation run by professionals and should be a resource for all things BMW.

Jeff, you make us proud by representing us and have our support 100%

Just got back from Singapore and %#$@&* tired.

Give me sometime to relax and digest the entire meeting, while doing that here are some photo's for the representatives of different BMW clubs and the council members.
