For just RM6,000 you can become a pilot. You won't be able to fly a Boeing or an Airbus but a microlight aircraft is yours to pilot. The Belia 4B Microlight Park at Kampung Tasek, Sungai Rambai, is offering flying lessons and the state government is offering interest-free loans to youth to cover the cost through the state Education Fund.Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said all a candidate needed to do was clock up 30 flying hours to obtain a licence. "We are encouraging all Malaysians to take up this sport, especially youth. We are hoping to get about 100 young people to take up flying within the next year," he said after opening the Sungai Rambai International Air Carnival 2009 at the microlight park yesterday.Other aeronautic sports available at the park include paramotor gliding, parachuting and flying remote-controlled aircraft. The three-day carnival, organised by the Belia 4B Malaysia Flying Club, Department of Civil Aviation, Malaysian Sport Aviation Federation and Sungai Rambai assemblyman Hasan Abdul Rahman is aimed at promoting sport aviation and the Sungai Rambai airstrip. The carnival is one of the youth-oriented events held in conjunction with the 17th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers next week in Kuala Lumpur.Young people from all over the Commonwealth will enjoy a home-stay programme in Sungai Rambai, where they will experience the rich Malay, Chinese, Indian, Baba and Portuguese cultures.Eighty people from 20 clubs are taking part in the carnival, including two each from Australia, Indonesia and Switzerland.Shall we start a list of members who are keen to take up the flying license.
