Hi All,

I recently had my oil and filter changed. Since then the car seems to be sluggish and lacking low down power, when the revs increase it seems to be running ok. When I accelerate from low revs I can hear a deep suction noise, sounds like old carburetors did when you left the air filter off. I have checked everything and all seems to be in place.
Anyone got any ideas what has happened?

Thanks in advance

Probably the deep suction noise is from intake manifold system as there is a vacuum pressure leak from one of the intake hoses. This vacuum leak would also affect the engine performance i.e. sluggish and lack of low down power.

Hi Herbert,

I have booked it into German Motors on Friday, I will let you know what they say.

Thanks for your help

Herbert, you were correct!! They found a split hose from the oil separator to the inlet manifold along with a sticking idling valve, cleaned and lubricated the valve and replaced the hose, all is good now.

My car started to do the same thing again, very sluggish and not pulling well from low revs. Just filled up with Petron 100ron fuel and the performance has returned to normal. If you are suffering from poor low rev performance try a tank full of 100ron to see if there is any difference.

Symptom indicates that the vanos seal is bad. Read more details about vanos seal failure here.....http://www.beisansystems.com/

Further to the above my car started to feel like it was again sluggish, when accelerating the gearbox seemed to hold a high gear until I put my foot hard down on the accelerator when it down shifted and took off. I did a google search and found a gearbox reset procedure, I tried this and the car is now back to normal, According to those who know, some, if not all, BMW's are fitted with "adaptive drive" where the gearbox and car "learns" your driving technique and changes the profile to suite. I have now reset to factory condition and the car is much better.
The reset procedure I used was:-
Turn on the ignition but do not start the car, the ignition position should be where all the warning lights are on.
Press and hold the accelerator fully down for 30 seconds.
After 30 seconds and while holding down the accelerator turn off the ignition
Release the accelerator
Wait 2 minutes with the ignition off
Start the car and drive away, hopefully you will notice a difference

I hope this is of help to someone who is suffering from the same issue.
