bmw7833, i am facing somewhat similar issues as you are. having parked my car this afternoon, i went back to it an hour later and discovered during my 20 minute drive that the a/cond isnt as cold as it used to be. i tried it again in the evening and the same issue persists, not as cold. anyways mine is a 98 UK Spec e39 523. i'm going to take it into Chu Seng tomorrow for a check. i pray it's a minor problem which wouldnt cost me too much....

bmw 7833...

I've experienced same problem on both my E28 a year ago.

Both my E28 a/c was serviced by Huat Huat Auto A/cond service centre, Jalan Ipoh,KL. The last job done was on 15/05/06.

I went to three A/c shops in KL and Gombak prior to Huat Auto A/cond and all the 3 gave 3 different proposals. 2 of them said coil leaking and need to change and cost up to RM1300 to repair.

Huat Auto checked my car A/cond and gave the estimate around RM220.

The followings was done.

Service cooling coil.....................RM65
2 bottles of compressor oil........RM48
S-D O-ring & oil.........................RM25
Labour service compressor........RM55
R-12 a/c gas..............................RM30 (mine using std gas type)
-----------
Total RM223 per car
-------------

(Cooling coil dismental & checked but no leak. So serviced and reassembled)

His price might varies today but I dont think very much.

Since your model is different from mine, you could try him out but get the estimates first B4 job is done.

Arr?? Only rm223..i done mine alomost rm1500 ler..

But 1st time in heard that cooling coil can be repair..

big bmw wit big taikor of jb sumore wor tats why RM1500.......thx for sharing anyway 7833 & nik

Isn't there any product that can seal leaks in the cooling coil? Just like radiator, if leaking, just get sealant additive, and hey presto, all leaks sealed.

OK, very important for those with air cond problems, found this very decent guy in Kinrara: Leong Air Cond tel 03-8075 3332. He is the only one I found that stocks the sealant, that can seal microleaks in air cond cooling coil. Give him a call for all those who have air-cond problems.

just want to compare some notes before i commit on any repair. My air cond is cold but if i left the car without being used for about 2 days or more or park my car under a hot sun for sometimes, it will take sometimes for the cold air to kick in. Either i take it for a ride for a while or when its idle I rev the car for a while then the cold air will start to come in. I have been told by one mechanic that my air cond compressor is not that good already. To replace it will will cost around rm1300.

Is it true? Anybody face the same problem and manage to resolve it? Can i just refurbished current compressor and how much will it cost?

If u search 'compressor' in the forum, u can get an information for a nice shop to refurbish the compressor.

Just to side track a bit on this topic. Is it possible that the both front air-cond (driver & passenger) are not as cold as the rear?

Thanks. Could it be some sort on switch or sensor that delay the compressor to kick in? If compressor is "not well'" i don't think the air cond will be cool as well?

Before you commit to repair, I suggest that you visit an a/c specialist too see if that is the problem, or is it something else, or a combination of a few problems. Otherwise, you may be in for a shocking surprise, either because a wrong part is changed, or that other parts need to be changed too as well.

huhuhuh

This is for the e60 - you should be able to find similar youtube videos for the e90, or use the e60 video to a certain extent: looks easy.

Possible as the rear duct is direct from the blower. Whereas front (driver & passenger) air-cond can adjust temp individually.

Herbert,
I believe the rear temperature is also controlled by the front (Driver & Passenger)
