I dont think a car qualifies as an investment

Margin of safety is not limited to investment only. the context here for car means low upfront which gives buffers for unexpected repair or maintenance need that creep up. (eg market price for E39 530 is around RM70-75k. paying RM53k would save you some 20k that can even allow you to change the whole engine + gear box if needed.)

Car is definitely not an investment, quite the opposite actually.

Eric, mizhan,

Good luck, I passed on that car...did you check the service record at M1 Segambut? Hope you prove me wrong.

Yes, done that on the day of the car collection. Just changed the front absorbers at M1, gained access to the car service history. Well cared for car, i'll say. M1 ppl trying to get me to do the engine check for past overheating problem. Manager said something about the possibility of this and that bla bla... usual technique to get us to open up our wallet wide and show them the money, they will show me the problems.

Wow.... 53k for a 530, darn good deal (which year of manufacture). QUOTE]

its year 2000, its CBU 2000/2001, Naza AP import new, so no salt rust issue, hopefully.

True and no pun intended, the post earlier is to highlight if i were to buy a condition like ay39's 530i, someone here will even consider to pay additional 20k. Another person mentioned he is not willing to pay for an unknown condition car for 53k even though it may be repaired (for much less than 20k) to match ay39's 530i car condition, literally speaking.

I'll take the latter approach again, no doubt. But again, i cant say which approach is the better route. For me a car is an expense, so for some it might be the other way (an investment!)

"Unless we open the gas chamber, we wont know for sure the cat is alive or dead. Some say it is dead, some say it is still alive. I'll say lets go clear the poison gas and look at it"

A car is never an investment, it's only whether we got a wife (jdm) or a mitress (UDM). Naza sold these batch of E39 530i at between 390k to 410k in the year 2000 & 2001. Btw, enjoy your ride.....join us for our weekly TT and show us your mitress...

Eerr, whats a jdm ? why is that a wife, sorry as im a newbie. I have the 2000 autocar magazine lists AB malaysia selling bmw 530i selling for 488k list price. Still profitable for Naza to circumvent and sell that much lower than AB back then...

I saw somewhere here mentioned friday tt at paparich sek19 PJ, elsewhere says tt at soul out, hartamas.. which one leh ? time ? 2nd friday of every month still applies ?

I hope I interprete correctly....

jdm = japan domestic market = wife = cheap(er) maintenance, life long usage
udm = mistress = very demanding but you always layan at all costs, use until you kenot tahan, use at your own risk!

If I get this right, maybe I'm qualify to own a (few) mis...ahem...udm.

Rule of thumb:

2nd Friday every month : Official TT at Borneo Rainforest, Sunway Pyramid unless advertised otherwise. We are currently trying to host this at different chapter's locations e.g Ampang TT, Bentong TT etc. Check Member's meet up section. Starts at 9.30pm.

Any other Friday: Paparich PJ TT, Ampang TT etc starts at 9.30.

Thursdays: Subang TT

I try to attend all Official TTs and a regular at the Paparich TT. Come join us, we'll be having an Official TT at Borneo Rainforest this Friday..

Anyone no any history about this?

http://www.mudah.my/BMW+525i+E39+SHIFTRONIC+HIGH+END+SPEC+JAPAN+SPEC-11593436.htm

Doesnt quite look Jap Spec to me but the Front bumper with headlight washer doesnt look CKD either

Looks clean though.. love the bone stock appearance

Looks CKD to me:

1) number plate front and back is the long type, indicates not Japan specs which have square type

2) Speedometer is in KM only, indicates not UK specs which have MPH/KMH

If you read the posting carefully you'll realise that the 'Japan Specs' is only mentioned in the title, in the actual description it says 'Auto Bavaria Local Specs'

I think the car still needs many repairs..In the interior pic, the warning lights are very obvious..ABS and ASC, brake, airbag warnings lit on as the engine is running..So, the claim "no need repairs, just buy and drive' is not true IMHO..

Might be the lights didnt come out yet, maybe just started as the engine is not yet brought up to temperature looking at the temp gauge.

Silly dealer with the description and that lights photo though.

Thanks for the heads up..
Not too keen on red/maroon car..
hahah

The 525I looks really good though.. will probably check it out when I come back in 2 weeks time
