Hi, When i start the engine and turn on the air con, why do have some strange odor smell? like fungus.but after a while , the smell will gone. The air con technician said because of the perfume refreshment caused the smell, as long as cold enough will do. no necessary to do anything nor clean, Pls advise if anyone have the same problem with me. Thanks

Try the de-humidifier such as that Thirsy Hippo etc. it help a bit. I use the cheap generic one from Carrefour and car has less damp scent.

Assuming ur ride is e39, when was the last time you serviced your aircond?

The stale smell is emitted only when the aircond starts blowing and it usually lasts for a couple of minutes. After that (which is long enough to jolt you out of your sleep in the morning) everything will be find and dandy, unless of course your passanger decide to let out a stinker just as you start to enjoy the fresh air from your Bimmer's aircond. So how la to use the Thirsty Hippo unless we can find a way to shaft the Thirsty Hippo down the aircond vent. I tried spraying the domestic aircond cleaner (you know the ones we use to clean our split unit aircond at home) but that did not really help.

Ced ... Keep air drier, less humid and stale. Aircond recirculates air. It helps a bit, not saying its a cure. Cure would be to service the whole system. I was told by BMW tech people at the SC that sometimes there is mould etc growing at the coils or something. They said something like let the aircond run on full heat often to dry things out.

i have that issue on almost all of my udms so far.. the easiest and cheapest solution so far is to buy 3 kgs of charcoal, dump everything in a used pillow cover, tie it up and leave it in the car for few days..

the smell is because in the cooling coil department, there is some fungal growth and cause some "kentut" smell sometimes..

if its very bad, you need to service and clean your cooling coil.

E39 needs to removed the whole dashboard to reach the cooling coil? I think I need to use disinfection chemical to clean it prior installing it back...

The air cond full system...
Normally the air cond shop know what to do...
The process..
1)Vacuum the system...
2)Recovered Compressor oil...
3)Refill Compressor oil...
4)Refill the air cond gas...
5)Pressure test for leaking...

Tarraaaa completed job...

When's your next get-together? I will surely cum if schedule permits.

Try put pang chow under your seat and soon your car will smell pandan. The pang chow also keeps cockroach away.

Do you have low cooling gas issue? Aircon gas smell sourish too and can be assumed as fungal infestation at your cooling coil.

vacuum filling gas has nothing to do with smells as it is around the cooling coil developing fungal growth .. not inside the coil. but since take out to clean, might as well vacuum fill.

Get a car ioniser like Medkline - it get rids of the particles rather than masking the smell
