Dear all, I am looking to buy an AB '07 X5, how do I determine the odometer is genuine or not? I have sent to 2 workshops, and both gave me different readings - being one gave me a 30k more and another indicate no change :( And the car do not come with full service records.. Please advise..

Take it to BMW dealership for diagnostic and verification like Ingress for certainty ... It may cost a few hundred ringgit but money well spent.

Sorry for my ignorance.... Does it mean they would have much sophisticated machines to do the checking, especially the odometer?

Well they do have the latest diagnostics equipment from BMW AG and technicians trained by BMW plus i'm pretty sure they can retrieve the service records or cross check with AB if it is indeed an AB car.

Give them a call and discuss with them about your predicament.

If it was an AB car, then take it to AB and request all the service history.

Normally the last service done at AB will be your last point. But worry not, they original keys will store the actual mileage from the ECU.

I did mine at AB Segambut and the Service Advisor just slot my keys into the special keyslot and wall my actual mileage came out. And it was 100k more than what the dealer sold me..

But I have replaced many parts since that the mileage doesn't matter anymore as almost everything is new except the engine.
