Are these blocks good for mild boost application? I am just thinking of swapping in a M52B28 engine and run mild boost of around 7-8PSI with a supercharger. Don't need alot of HP, just something decent like 250-260HP will do.My main worry is that these engines are made of aluminium instead of cast iron. Thus will the stock engine block (using stock internals) blow under supercharge environment.

supercharge?, just up to 260bhp?
those euro S52B32 N.A power was 321BHP.. Aluminium alloy,

just compare and check the S54B32 and S52B32 engine history.
those S54B32 got many engine BLOWN history using grey cast iron,
compare to euro S52B32 alloy engine.
or just refer to real racing history recorded in europe and US.

thing you should fear was the gearbox, not engine la..

Just so we all get our facts right, the correct designation for the Euro M engine is the S50B32. The S52 is actually the the US-only M3 engine. :thefinger:

BTW the original question was on the M52, so what does Euro S50 M engines have to do with the price of fish?

that is terrible la..,
EURO S50B30 was base on M50 OBDI version with single VANOS,
S50B32 was upgraded version
EURO S52B32 was base on M52 OBDII version with double VANOS,

the US version totally different, it use grey cast iron block with M52 HEAD
on the S52B32, soo, the power only @ 240bhp,

the local aluminium alloy M52B28 can easily reach these US MMmm level by
upgrading to M50 intake manifold and Cold air intake system.

the different was only 0.4L, not much.. :top:

actually the local e36 328i with aluminium alloy M52B28 can get same performanch
as US e36 M3 with US S52B32 engine..

The S50B32 was an evolution version of the S50B30. Power of the 3.2 L version is 321 hp (239 kW). This engine has a bore of 86.4 mm and a stroke of 91.0 mm giving a displacement of 3201 cc. It has a maximum permissible speed of 7600 +/-50 rpm, and a permissible constant speed of 7400 rpm.
The US counterpart, the BMW S52B32, shared some of the European versions' internal dimensions but was festooned with the restrictive M52B28 intake manifold and used a cylinder head design more akin to the M52 than to its fire-breathing European cousin. Power for the S52B32 was only 240 hp (180 kW) and maximum permissible engine speed was in the 6500 rpm range since it used hydraulic lifters instead of solid ones.
