Hi all, I am contemplating in upgrading my front speakers to the one recommended by a well-known ICE shop in Penang. Any comment for the Hertz Hi-Energy HSK-165? It's two-way system with a 6.5" woofer HV165 + 1" tweeter HT25 and a passive cross over. My main concern is my friend which has a similar set up had it done up at RM1300 while the shop quoted me RM950 with installation + tuning. Only extra is a addtional RM280 for the kick panel for my E36. So RM350 different is a lot. My friend said they might be fakes. While I'm at it, what about Eton Adventure A1-160? what say you guys? you feedback will be much appreciated. Cheers

I did heard about Hertz imitation products from one of the installer but I myself didn't know how to differentiate it. But lower price doesn't mean it is an immitation.

8080, let your ears decide... you hafta spend countless hours auditioning all the speakers that you fancy...

I guess I have to spend some time to hear it out myself to decide which is going down better into my ears.

Anyway, you could check out their website. http://www.hertzaudiovideo.com/default_en.htm

I also saw a range of speakers (in the catalog)called "Super" which is designed for cars that has low clearance for speakers. I remember only 40mm height for a 6.5" speaker.
Might be useful for those E90 owners. But it's not found in the website.

anyway, my friend told me the original does not have "Italy" on the lable at the back of the magnet. But I went to the shop which claim they're the original one also saw some other model with "Italy" on the lable....more confuse.

Sorry me bad, the extreme reduce size speakers is named SPACE not super.
and it's in the website.
Correct me if I'm wrong, the Mille range speakers can cost more than 10K.

Bro,

The Mille range is supposedly the highest range of their product but I won't pay RM 10K for it. For a lot less, a pair of the revised Seas Lotus Reference will blow it out of the water as will a few other speakers! Just a case of crazy margins and mark-ups that some of the distributor and dealers put on their products these days. But yes, they are quality product and you won't go wrong with them.

Anyway, Hertz make some decent stuff but given the fact that these are also outsourced to China factories, there's a slew of fakes from the DC to the HSK series. My advise would be to buy sets with warranty direct from their local distributors instead of those with shop warranty. Lelong.com is a good place to avoid if you want the real deal .... LOL! BTW, an original pair of HSK 165 even in SG is going for SGD 650.00 and above the last time I checked.

Eton makes some rather yummy speakers - PM Affan66 who's actually running a pair in his car for his feedback. And as LCP said .... the difference at the end of the day is in the listening. Speaker selection IMO is one of the most subjective and personal factors in establishing a good system. Have fun and don't be afraid to experiment a little with raw drivers too.

Regards,
VaN.

Raw drivers? Go get some Scanspeak stuff... heehee...

Thanks Vanquish and LCP for your feedback.

at SGD650.00, it makes RM1300 a cheaper choice. but I thought that M'sia custom has got some duty for speakers, right? not sure, but i remember someone told me something like 20-30% duty for speakers.
S'pore only +5% GST. How come S'pore cost more? Just curious.

Anyway, Eton A1-160 should gives me more warm and clarity in the vocal. was quoted RM1500 for it.

LCP, tell me when you're going to Goldern to install your STEG amps. I want to go and test those Eton and Hertz as well. :D

So,

LCP going with Steg's eh ? LOL! We want an audition, dude!

Anyway, prices of the HSK165 has come down a little bit more these days in SG. Was just talking to another buddy in SG who confirmed that ori ones are now in the region of SGD 550 or so. Anyway, if you're still keen on the HSKs perhaps Uncle at Golden can get you some ori units for the right price. The Eton's are mighty tempting too ... I've heard them in Affan's car before.

Raw drivers .... these are essentially basic drivers from companies like Seas, Scan, Peerless, Morel, Focal and such without any passive crossovers supplied. You buy a pair of tweets and matching mids from a single brand or mix and match them with other brands. You can then either custom make passive crossovers to suit the drivers or run them active using stand-alone or an electronic crossover from your amp or HU. A bit more work involved here but the results are usually well worth the trouble.

Regards,
VaN.

Yo... the Steg K2.02 will hafta wait, now semi-broke after becoming a good boy by settling my income tax on time... :(

LCP, I feel for you. My year's low too when I have to settle the balance tax due to our gov.

Anyway, Vanquish bro, uncle told me that he got his Hertz via parallel import from HK. Price is quite tempting at RM950 but have to add RM280 for the new kick panel as it would't fit the 6.5". My friend did his at the "authorised" dealer fro RM1300. the dealer claim it a fake which makes me and my friend worried.
My friend change the two way to a three way system as the dealer said it does not have fakes.

Anyway, I hold on my comment until I test the speakers in my car using my amps.

Cheers.

8080,

Did u get the speakers?

A friend of mine uses DLS(rear speakers) and is quite happy with them.

if i seen ur thread a month ago, i could recommend u to this speaker..my friend got this speaker used only 1 month and sell at 750 rm.. this speaker is quite decent. i've listened to it, i should say that it is much better than morel entry speaker like, morel tempo and morel pulse.

Hi All,

wanted to fix the Hertz at golden but uncle David introduce me to a new brand from that is made in Korea. Auditioned it and compare to the Hertz and found that it offers more bass and clarity at the same time giving the warm performance that I wanted.
So now it is on my car. customized kick panel had to be made to house the new 6.3" units while the tweeters is not on the A-pillar( might want to customize a housing for it if I can't get use to the look).

if you don't mind the brand it offers value to money performance that beats most entry level branded SQ speakers.

Cheers.

here's a look of the customized kick panel before they are being wrapped up with black PVC fabric.

Now need to run in the speakers before going back to fine tune the stagging.

Next upgrade will be to replace the two units of 10" woofer mounted on the rear panel to a customized enclosure with a single 12" woofer. ( was recommended JL 12" woofer ). My plan is for the enclosure to be the shape of the side booth to not sacrifice too much usable storage space.

Sound proof of the four doors and upgrade of cable with come after that.

sorry, got error message when trying to upload those kick panel pictures.

might try again later.
