Doug DeMuro has some biting criticisms about the modern BMW. If that's progress, he doesn't want anything to do with it. I agree with some of the points raised.

Twenty years ago, BMW was the coolest automaker in the world. I know this because I – as a young lad of less than ten, growing up in the 1990s – desperately wanted my father to purchase a BMW. And he – as a rational, middle-aged man in his 40s – ended up in a Camry with cloth seats and a tape player. He wasn’t the BMW type. He wasn’t cool enough. Back then, few were.

People want choice people get choice. That's what producers need to do to be in the game. Consumers get to pick what they like. It's a win-win situation.

We just had less auto journalists and no social media back then. That's why back in the good old days, we don't hear much negativity and the iconic cars of yester years remain legendary till today.

Cars today handle better, go faster yet safer, mostly tasteful contemporary styling, loads of tech gadgets, and consume less fuel. The soon to be released M2 is a far superior car than the E30 M3. Get over it.

..BMW's today in my humble opinion are, just like all other cars today, suited for consumers(wide range of them), nothing really special, which is where 'edge is lost'..its not anymore drivers car, and thats the fact..that means, to give touch and feel of performance by utilizing computer tech on vehicles at such extend that granny could drive fast like a pro..is that good? I dont know. Car which doesnt asking me to be a proper driver is not a car for me, therefore, from my corner, modern BMW's are nothing but keyboard warrior cars..very similar to modern aircraft today, pilots fly by joystick, strictly embedded in to computer predetermined set of rules to maintain safe flight..sounds good, except, such thing making pilot useless in case of any situation where true flying skills are required..cut them of from computer, and they are as good as near every passenger behind...

bro.....don't la use pilots as an example and label them as good as the passengers when the computers fail....modern aircraft hava double and triple system redundency and have backup to the backup system and they are trained very well in many unlikely situations that may not even happen in real day to day flight.....modern car designs are more about business...with the exception of the veyron:wub: perhaps....

..well..i took that reference as a some sort of reality..how many of them fly/having skills, actually without computer, and maintain altitude/speed safe (margin very narrow at higher altitudes)..my unckle is a pilot(retired now, Lufthansa), and he reach position of captain when he was 59/60 years old...and look at now age of first officer..in his 30's, in some cases early 30's..its insane and all down to fully automated systems involved in 'flying' which involve less timespan needed to 'learn to fly'..according to him (and if you read many professional pilot forums), extensive use of automation in aircraft today, severely cutting down raw flying skills of pilots, which in case of losing all that computer support in specific situation, rendering pilots near useless..

..similar to cars today..i just wanna laugh when i listening 'pro's' how quickly they do this or that, catching curves, shifting gears...yet, all he do is..press a button to up/downshift gear, during cornering, most of dirty work is done by onboard computer systems..now..i do understand use of mentioned systems, and im NOT against it..all im saying is in a light of this discussion are cars getting crappier or not, in which case, from driver point of view, cars today are crap, as requires near nill skills to perform certain things..thats why I made comparion with pilots newdays..

..i whish to see newdays 'captain of airliner' who made before his 40 such position, give a try on B-29 bomber from ww2 who were landing safe, with half tail section cut off in fight..flying by hand and skills..i bet they will crash..

..similarly, this time ace of F1 racing Niki Lauda, have to say something about modern F1 machines, build around very similar idea as brand new cars newdays as well..
