Hello bro's & sis' !你们好!I'm planning to lay my hands on an E39 in a month or two. Advices from you sifu's are most welcome!Currently driving a Mitsubishi Chariot N84 (yr 2000); before that, a Citroen Xantia.Used to have a E28 (520) but it was stolen :-(Currently there's one listed in star-motoring 528 yr96/97 asking for rm53k.One in lelong 523 asking for 71k.How much should i fork out for a reasonably conditioned E39 ?Cheers!

Dear friends, shalom!
Salam sejahtera, kawan-kawan!
师傅们,大家好!

A million Thanks to the moderators and forumers alike for this wonderful website!

After much delay, i've taken delivery of a used 528i (1997 Europe model, 179000km on the meter) last month.

This beast has almost all i desire in a comfy pack - sunroof, electric memory leather seats, rear sunblind, multifunction steering wheel, steptronic AT - all working good. And the previous owner had upgraded the head+tail lights to face-lift versions. I would have hit a jackpot if i got [GSM phone, DSP stereo, headlight washer] pack. However, the paintwork is black (a re-spray from the original metalic purple) which is not my choice, and lotsa hairlines scratches.

Well, you can't ask for more when the price is sub RM50k. (After the transfer fees, roadtax, insurance etc, it's still sub-50k !) It's a steal!

Having bought it from a dealer in as-is condition, inevitably i have a list of many items to replace : (i) front door edge rubber linings (ii) under-bonnet cover mat (iii) wrinkled & blemished seat leather (iv) driver seat base trim (v) MID pixels (vi) rear shelf lining (vii) emergency triangle reflector (viii) windscreen washer reservoir cap (ix) cupholder assembly for rear passengers (x) magazine holder spring assembly @ left seat

My idea was to buy the car cheap and (re)build it up at my own pace and time.
So far i have gotten an emergency triangular reflector set - original BMW part! - for RM70. I've just fixed the rear shelf lining for about RM4 - DIY lah ;-)

Cosmetically apart, i had my concern for the innards - the engine and other mechanical parts. After driving the UDM around for almost a month now, here's the report card:
* the engine is sluggish when started cold first time on any day, and you could feel a slight jerk when the tranny shifts from 1st to 2nd gear.
* when warmed up, the engine is rather smooth , and the tranny shifts nicely. I could tapau any car on the road like a sang helang going for little chicks.
* with the aircon on, the radiator fan noise wax and wane in tandem with accelerator pedal push

So far i've had the engine oil changed when i first gotten the car, using Castrol Magnetic. I have not changed the ATF and differential fluid yet.

Hence here's my first questions to all you sifus:
can i expect to solve the jerky tranny problem when i go for a ATF and differential oil change? Is the MAF sensor in need of a clean-up?

I was in the very busy time of the year work-wise when i got my UDM last month. It's time now to meet my local forumers: calling InitialM, BMW7833, Ryucky81, Geoffrey, hey! care to come out for a TT time?

Warm regards,
Phase5

Not everyone cries at the beginning la...some at later stage.....ahem.
Anyway, welcome Phase5

congrats on ya new ride ....price is definately a plus point ...but overall i see you have the passion ..keep it up and hope your report card listings will be well planned ...

Congrats on your new ride. I'm glad you consider the car a steal. Well, it is.

The fan noise that you're mentioning, that's cuz it's a cluth fan and it's supposed gain speed as engine RPM increases.

I read somewhere that if you replace your clutch fan, you can feel a lot of difference in terms of engine responsiveness.

Thanks guys for all your welcomes & congrats, hope to see you some day!
Thanks bimmerholic for the fan noise info, i'll certainly research more on this.

Cheers!
