Gents, was at mechanic over the weekend to fix seals and gasket for leaking engine oil. My mechanic also recommended that I replace the "fuel filter". Damn, this was the first time I have ever heard anyone say that to me. Car is now only approx 62,100km. His reasoning was that petrol in Malaysia not very "clean". After a while, the fuel filter could clog up and the car will gradually experience power loss. Since it's gradual, you may not even feel that degradation.Comments?

Fuel Filter is common even in Japanese car. Proton 1.6 & 1.8 also perdanas do have fuel filter and it not just paper filter but it with pressure. When it not allowing fuel to be feed smoothly.. engine will suffer from power shortage.

Yup! There is a filter before fuel goes into the engine. Just like oil, it has a filter too. Not too worry, a regular part needed to be changed in the list.

Normal periodic change is 40-50k km. Not expensive either, somewhere at RM30-40++.

yeah, replace it, for E46 is only about RM 80, change it every 30-40K

Gents, thanks for the info, strange, AB never mentioned anthing about this, but they are always happy to change the Air-conditioner air filter at RM150 a pop.

Mouse, where did u get yours at 50-80? My mech quoted a price of about RM150.

Wah...RM80 is cheap....i changed mine Ori BMW for RM210...but the fuel filter in my car comes with a regulator...

way to pricey, even if it's original. just double check on few other mechanics/suppliers b4 you change.

You are referring to fuel filter or air con microfilter?

If air con; yes, it cost that much.

Fuel Filter

I am refering to the fuel filter not the Air-Cond air filter. Anyways, the price does not seem very reliable.

The Fuel filter looks like a silver cylinder, Image a can of coke but about half the size. It is located on the under carriage side below the driver passenger side. It also has a few hoses connected to it. It was actually pointed out to me by a mechanic.

u forget to mention another filter that is carbon filter. i thought i have change all the filters and just found out last 2 week that there is a carbon filter. its a black colour plastic cylinder at the other end from your exhaust pipe, it filter the air or something like that. old one very heavy (coz already accumulate all the dust and dirt inside, new one very light, u really can feel the diffrence if u never change it when u weight both of them in your hand

Thanks tongsatriani, we should really update our profiles guys, makes it easier to understand when we know which car it applies to.

Anyways, was checking the internet for the parts and found out it is being sold in the states for about USD51/-. approx RM183??? The fuel filter is a silver cylinder and has a regulator inside.
