60% highway driving, 35% normal roads, 5% spirited driving. So, what would be the fuel consumption like for a full tank?

Should be around 420km +, depend on the traffic jam and the speed, highway 120-140km/h can get abour 600km+ per tank full.

mine's a 325 '01. at 60%normal road, 35% highway, 5% spirited i'm getting 450km at around RM95 a full tank. a 320 should be the same.

think so

I think this has been discussed before. The best way to compare is to use the on-board computer and get the average Litres/100km consumed. I usually re-set my counter everytime I am at a petrol station. I am averaging 11.9L/100km.

From my experience so far, looks like if you do a lot of city/traffic driving, your rate increases to about 12.5-13L/100km. But if drive "off-traffic" then you can average less than 12.5L. The best way to maximise efficiency apparently is to make sure you hit the 90 - 100km as quickly as possible and keep it there as long as you can.

ken.

Yeah, Im sure it has been discussed but I just couldnt find it here. Tried searching but couldnt find any.

Guys,

Thanks for the input. I'm about the same distance as most of you. B)

msport 318i 2001.. DAILY : 50% bz hway (MRR2, federal), 50% city driving (ampang, shalam, putrajaya, dmnsara).. full tank RM95 = 520km to 560km. can sumbody sugest to me how i can save fuel thru minimal modification tht doesnt screwup the maintnce computer system..

From my experience owning of 318 E36 previously and now E46 320i, the E46 320i fuel comsumption slightly better or better than 318 E36..why I say so...320i come with bigger engine ..1995 cc Vs 1769cc...more horse power & Torque...E46 are heavier 1460kg Vs...forgot the weight of e36 but definetly lighter than E46..the E46 come shod with 17" sport rim with 245/40/17 rear 225/45/17(front)...whereas standard E36 come with 205/60/15...so RM10 ringgit of petrol can last 40km for E36 Vs RM10 40km for E46 320i...tht is based on city driving only & 1 liter cost RM1.60 after the price hike..

If you are idling in traffic, waiting for the traffic lights or waiting for your gf to put on her makeup, listening to ICE, etc. it will eat into your fuel consumption.

For my E46 320i Full tank RM97.00 can go 500km++ with normal cycle driving.

The first thing to do is to ensure the injectors and cylinders are clean and decarbonated. There are products in the market for this.

Another way to decarbonate is to simply push the car on a regular basis. Driving like an aunty will eventually clog up the engine.

From your numbers, your consumption is pretty good already.

Yes good idea give your ride a full rev will help, ride up to genting push to 6000rrm on 1st and 2nd gear will help to clean up yr injector and carbon. Dont worried on your engine coz bimmer is protected with the max rev on each gear u will not over rev the engine, even on with steptronic.

Decarb, O2 sensor, fuel oil filter, deposits on injector....do keep in mind that these are the contributing factor for bmw's fuel consumption...check on that first.

lee36328,

Viewed your photos to FH. Nice.....just one question: any of the convoy members faced any problems with your gearbox after the journey uphill? I believe some of the cars are manual, right?

Green Killer,

Thanks for the compliment.

But, if you have a question on the gearbox, best to start another thread, and not hijack this thread on e46 fuel consumption. List ur specific gearbox concerns there. I've PMed u a response. Thanks.
