i understand, but all those that has contributed DO have a bmw! if you dont have one, i'm sure there are other makes that also have high CCs..we dont hear them saying, waah 500SL, 4.6HSE ..how much is your road tax or fuel consumption?!
what about ppl that turbo their cars? aren't their fuel consumptions high? i dont hear these ppl complaining about it in their respective forums? same rules should apply when you've got a higher cc car..

Nope, you did not understand.. those who normally show concern over high consumption and maintenance don't turbo or super charge their cars.. neither do they own higher cc cars, be it a bmw. Those who do, having taken the plunge knowing well its consequences, do not complain.

Point is, not everyone will see things alike. Like it or not, its just his/her view. Do not discriminate.

hmmm....
both of you i agree....

if mafia....sure dun agree....coz he use 745i!

but hor...today my 735i consumption veli good....mix drive gave me like 70km for rm10.....darn good hor....but my 525i only 40km for rm10

Vanos at 2800 rpm. There is no hesitation as I am going uphill, just a sudden surge of power, a lot smoother than a Honda Vtec coming "on-cam" at 4500 rpm. Honda does have a slight hestation as the cam lopes change. But Vanos is infinitely variable so the swithcing is smooth.
The bigger valve lift gives the torque at the expense of fuel consumption, of course.

Actually, FC is a matter of driver style. If you can drive lightly, and smoothly, the FC can be very good. I remembered a couple of years ago, Shell and Honda did a FC challenge of about 120 kms route using Honda Civic VTEC manual. The winner is a 72-year old "Racing Legend" Poncholo Ramirez who clocks in over 50 MPG on the civic.

Thats amazing considering a Civic averages 35-37 mpg on normal driving. So its possible to extend FC based on the way a car is driven. Especially a manual. Those doing "spirited driving" will suffer in FC for sure, but what the heck, I say, its so much fun in a BMW. Few more riggit for the fun is well worth it!.

You know i have been following this thread. I kinda agree with Fuhrer not to state the obvious. Anything over 3L will incur high road tax, maintenance and not to mention fuel consumption.

As MTek1318 puts it the people who drive the lower cc cars will grieve on high road tax, maintenance and high fuel consumption. Agreed not everybody have the same requirement.

That said here is my 2 cents to this whole matter.

Once you have drive a high cc car you will understand what I mean besides power and satisfaction. Drive it long term and you will understand what I mean. Subsequently all costs associated with fuel consumption, road tax and maintenance will be worth your while.

Finally if road tax, fuel consumption and maintenance is your concern then BMW is NOT the car for you. Then best look at Japanese alternative. Maintenance and Fuel Consumption is not BMW strongest point and not for faint hearted. Road tax is beyond anybodys control. Bimmer is for spirited sporty driving which means wear and tear means maintenance which and higher fuel consumption. This applies to all BMWs be it 4 cyc, 6 cyc or even 8 cyc.

Disagree? MYVI looks attractive.
