Decided to retrofit the f30 m sport steering wheel onto my 2012 320d sport line.. searched the net and found out it's a plug and play mod and look around for original m sport steering. managed to buy the steering wheel and the airbag from ebay. total cost plus shipping RM4,200. Both the steering wheel and airbag are brand new and original with paddle shifters.

F30 M sport steering wheel with paddle shifters retrofitted! it's just plug & play with no error. All features and functions are still there. It has thick nappa leather and sporty design and worlds apart from the stock steering wheel.. reminds me of my old golf steering.

princevick of bimmercoder will help me with the wiring and connections to enable the paddle shifters on my 320d next week.. will update you guys on the progress! even now without the paddle shifters functioning, the grip and look of the interior is vastly improved, even my 3 year old daughter notice the new steering.. a worthwhile upgrade IMO.

Wow humms! That looks really awesome! Let me know how is the coding with the paddle shifters working! I'm still contemplating on changing to M-Sport or M-Performance as I really love that alcantara feel. :)

well, the latest m-performance steering wheel have been updated to the latest style as well! so no fret about it, go and change it already. princevick mentions that we can either use original BMW connectors or aftermarket connectors (cheaper of course).

Very nice, I always said that the steering upgrade is one of the better upgrades because you will use it all the time in your car :p

agree! you'll be holding it as much as when you're in the car driving..

i would consider upgrading too if the paddles coding is straight forward. great info.. keep us posted on the shifters

During the steering installation, it was noted that the hardware required for the paddle shifters are all there, only that the connectors with pins and wiring are absent.. The bracket for the shifters connectors are all present.. Presume it to be just fitting of the missing wirings and connectors. Still contemplating between original wiring or aftermarket..

found this on ebay. new style f30 m performance alcantara steering with digital display and carbon fibre trim. USD2,150 (excluding airbag).

alcantara sport steering for M5 and M6, very similar to the new m sport steering wheel. not sure if it's compatible with F30. USD1,100 (excluding airbag). the new f30 m sport steering wheel airbag is the same as the 6 coupe though.

hi humms, yours is a sports steering. i'm checking around, this will be a nice upgrade for the 316i standard steering ....

I would definitely wait for a flat bottom version of the M Sport steering wheel wrapped in Alcantara and having the LED display. Totally awesome!

Oh I didn't know 316i has a different steering from the rest..

Mavik, the Alcantra m sport with digital display new style gonna cost a bomb.. After conversion it's about rm8k without airbag.. Airbag u gotta add another 2.4k

You got to wait a while for the price to taper down. In the previous model, the steering wheels used to be that price but after a while, it gets cheaper. Now it is in the range of RM5k+

Can't get from eBay, best to get from suppliers with the right part number.

RM5K+ for the digital display alcantara previous version? that's more affordable. comes together with paddle shifters and all the buttons?

maroonbug is also selling the used normal m performance alcantara steering at RM2.3K, without shifters and buttons.

hi chin eng, i think you'll be able to reuse your original airbag and buttons with maroonbug's used alcantara m performance steering wheel.

if you really want my steering wheel (without airbag), i don't mind letting it go at RM1.3k.. let me know

bimmercoder successfully get the paddle shifters to work flawlessly.. with just an additional single wire! amazing that the module, software and hardware are all present in the car, just waiting to be enabled!

the single wire connects one of the pins in the steering wheel to the side of the passenger footwell area. that's all for the wiring!

i can engage the paddle shifting directly without even pushing the idrive gear selector into the manual shifting mode.. if i leave the shifters idle i.e. without changing gears within 10 seconds or so, it will automatically goes back to D.. just like how it should behave on a normal paddle shifter car.

for those who contemplating in upgrading their cars, please go ahead because it's quite simple to do it.
