I've not read much about F1 helmet. Recently I attended a web-based seminar about user interface and F1 helmet was one of the examples. Apparently there's display inside. Not much was revealed about the technology behind it. I cannot be certain if it's projected display (like fighter pilot's helmet) or LCD's, but it seems like the former.Unfortunately I cannot tell from the poor resolution web based video what exactly are being displayed. Commentary says it's critical information & some warning lights just so that the driver need not look down to the steering wheel. Whose helmet it was, they said the user interface was a result of inputs from a former world champion.

i wasn't aware that the F1 helmets have HUD? Cool!

A bit of an overkill for the weekend auto-x, I guess :p

HUD? possible but I think not common amongst F1 runners. Telemetry nowadays can report the possible fault to the engineers sitting in the paddock and the race engineer will then communicate to the driver.....and leave the driver undistrated by more idiot lights....

I remember another thing... the commentary was saying that among the things the HUD can show, it can stream real time info such as "Alonso 0.52sec" ( nearest competitor's name and time apart)

While radio is great, nothing beats real time info streaming away. Besides driving at 300kph and listen to radio, vs checking out the HUD, seems like the later can be a nice alternative. Of course I wonder how many F1 teams can afford this...

Don't they use it to stream podcast during the boring bit of the race (which is 95% of the time)???
