Hello to All,I've e46 318 2.0 and millage 81k. The problem is, while normal idling speed with a/c sw on the rpm shown 950rpm and the engine in steady condition but when sw off the a/c, the rpm drop to 650-700rpm and engine become to vibrate. I asked to workshop with the specialist BMW and he has told me that maybe the oil separator comes clog and need to change and the approximately around rm800. If u all any experience of this please share with me . TQ.

hi asmadi, i have quite a similar issue like yours. Mine is, when aircon's ON, all ok. But when I turn it OFF, then the rpm falls to about 600. At this point if I turn the steering, my god the engine is like crawling and the whole body shake!!!

Asmadi,
When the RPM clock down and your engine vibrate, did you notice the exhaust?.. Is it black smoke?

If it vibrates with a/c on or off then I believe it is caused by oil separator or leaks in the three vacuum hoses connected to it(or other leaks like at vacuum pump or brake servo). It is normal to have lower idle RPM with a/c off but the vibration is certainly not. The pulley system might need to be checked (off a/c means less load=less tension) including the tensioner. My N42 was vibrating last time due to vacuum pump leak

thank Zeedo 4 your concern. I confirm that when a/c is ON the RPM is maintain at 900 and engine come steady. But when a/c goes off engine become unstable and RPM drop to 600. You said pulley system have to check to confirm the probable cause. Can U tell me how to check and recommend where wksop can i send my it.
