Hi all,I'm having a E46 318i. And I'm facing engine oil reduce drastically for only 200+km and there's blue smoke coming out from the exhaust. However, I do not find any engine oil leakage. What's the problem actually? Thanks!
Your engine is burning oil, hence the blue smoke, it could be worn piston rings or worn valve guide or seals. In other words, your engine is shot, need an overhaul if it's the piston rings, or just a top overhaul for the worn valve guide/seals...
Aiyoh. Seen this type of post several times and it almost feels like a relative is dying in hospital kinda thing. I feel your fear and pain buddy.
My next question is, how come this car can kena like this one? Its not an old car or anything. How does one prevent this from happening? I think its good to know. Anybody can share some insight?
if valve seal, don't need to do top overhaul oso.. can be changed without removing the cylinder head.. But if piston rings, then need to overhaul the engine.
Proper diagnosis can determine which is the main culprit...
The rings are always in tension to provide the proper seal. If the sludge gather around the rings. it will not allow the rings to "expand" and move freely.
As the rings begin to wear (as it should be), it might cause "leaks".
What this engine cleaner that to remove the sludge to free the rings.

Overhaul should be the last options. it just cost too much.
