Traditionally, BMW performed a break-in service at 1,200 miles on new cars, which included changing the engine oil and filter, manual gearbox oil or automatic transmission fluid, and differential oil. With the advent of Free Scheduled Maintenance, BMW stopped performing break-in services except on M cars. The rest could be read here..http://m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=120736

If your car is under still under warranty, i dont think its the best move.

I think you will need to pay for that as its not under the scheduled serviced period (as per your car computer board).

I was told that its better to have our car serviced by AB or any authorised dealer for the first 3 years. Its because if there is a RECURRING PROBLEM in year 3 (after the 2 year of warranty period has lapsed), they still have some obligation to repair the recurring problem as long as it was previously recorded in the service/ repair history record. Make sure they take a note about your complain in the first 2 years, maybe in writing or something.. I think so..

I kind of did a break in service on my e92 as there was a problem plus the CD service indicator was dropping pretty fast did it at 5-6k. So kind or break in service. Did it t ingress, they are pretty aggressive. After that the CD service indicator was much better and car slightly smoother. Would be a way to 'avoid' paying for the service.

On my f10, service indicator is fast falling too but after switching to esso diesel, it's more consistent. Will most likely do a service at around 5-6k, and with ingress too.

sorry, what do u mean that they are pretty aggressive??? when u going earlier for service, ingress people not happy???

Is it advisable to use BMW service center engine oil or we can buy from outside ....

no i didnt change and done anything myself! My car is just fine! done 6k now....

only to careful on the roads bump, holes etc. Hit one of those will give a loud bang sometimes.

My ride has done 3,300km so far and I'm planning to change the engine oil after reading this thread. Just checked with my service center in Melaka and was quoted RM475 for engine oil and filter change. Though they don't suggest for an oil change after break in period, they did mention "can do an extra oil change between 1st scheduled service (10,000km) and 2nd service (25,000km)" Any thoughts?

I just did yesterday my first service at 5800km with the service indicator mentioning 150km to service. Now reset to second service at next 18k.I think just to follow the service indicator will be fine. Why is it your 1st sceduled service at 10k km?.mine was programmed at 6k km..

Tq ashman55 for your feedback. My BMW authorized dealer scheduled my 1st service at 10k km. I tot each n every BMW's service interval is scheduled the same way ma ....... How come yours is different?

I thought soo to.wonder about other frens here.10k or 6k 1st service...

My SKD version is set for 10,000 as well. Weird to hear that yours is set at 6,000. I've also heard that the service interval changes according to your driving style. So maybe you've been revving your car a lot? But then again 6,000 and 10,000 is a big difference!

I would like to think that my driving is rather sedate only occasionally have some fun.like to drive sport+ tho.Probably this is the way the dealer make it up to me for pissing me off so much pre delivery..I was surprised also because my previous E90 1st service was at 10k km
