I was at my workshop for regular maintenance and came about an article in one of the BMW only magazine.Apparently the early genre BMW engine 2.0L, 2.5L and 2.8L came with restrictive manifold to control the hp to adhere to some local tax in Germany. It was written that the 2.8L came with a 2L manifold. Subsequently the later 2.2L, 2.5L and 3.0L came with bigger manifold thus the increase in hp and etc... I am just wondering if anybody has tried to change the manifold for the early genre restricted engines?I was told removing the Cat converter and replacing it with a free flow proper center exhaust will make a difference in response and power. Any comments?Anybody has tried the approach above? If not mistaken it applies to E46 and E39 mainly.

Yes mostly true. You can check out e36coupe.com for more details. Look up the guy called alpina527.

In short. The main benefits are for the 328i engines from the e36 era with the single vanos version.

They used a 320i intake manifold on the 328i engine to restrict the air intake and hence bhp.

What most guys do is fit the 325i intake manifold to liberate a few more ponies. Some people say you loose some torque, but i think it's a worth while mod to do. It's not plug and play, you have to make a couple of brackets for it to fit.

Some guys here have done it and i remember reading that one 325 owner even did a reverse swap to a 320 intake to gain some torque.

Cheers.

accordin to alpina527, someone from Malaysia, bought one of his manifold and it was installed on a e36 328i, not who could that be....

Hahahha... yeah, i bought his kit and the BBTB.

And i think it's a well built piece of kit, and my car feels much much better.

But IMHO, now that i know, you can get it done here for a fraction of the price that i paid.

dvng,

Here you go man, the picture of the bracket that you wanted.
Will send you more, just PM me yr email add.

Sorry, picture is not too good, just learning to use the camera.

Cheers.

Check out e36coupe.com for more details.... all on the home page. look for alpina527.

To be honest, on my auto the gains are not felt that much, but it's supposed to make yr car rev better.

The main reason why i did the change is that i didn't want my car to have the smaller 320 intake manifold, especially when BMW has seen fit to put a larger one on the 325. We don't have power related tax brackets here not like in Germany and i don't see why i should have a restrictor on my car.

But for peace of mind, Dinan uses the same 325 intake manifold on the most powerful of their USspec e36 M3 conversions. So, if it's good enough for him, it's good enough for me.

I'll be more than glad to drag you if you like.....

To get the best gains, yes but most of the guys in the UK have run this mod without a remap and still experience good gains.

Zoggee, when and where la?
