..recently, im reading/watching, a lot about electric powered vehicles..so, whole idea sounds just nice..especially after you see videos such as these....looks really attractive..but then, you start thinking..charging time is really a problem, and that require whole infrastructure to be massively reconstructed, and im not sure how large 'charging stations' have to be..but even if that is ignored, i came to conclusion that electrical cars are NOT exactly ecological as they are promoted..actually, I think they are worse than petrol/diesel brothers...i mean, in order to store certain amount of energy in to car batteries, you have to produce MORE energy than actual battery can store, due losses in transfer, generators itself, batteries, etc..so question is then, from where that energy came from ?? Powerplants will then, burn more fuel(whatever fuel is used), or water power, in order to produce much much more energy than we use right now...lets talk about lithium, used in batteries..what about its disposal, heavy toxic matter used inside battery cells ?? It seems that electric cars looking 'ecological', only surrounded by petrol/diesel brothers, as they are not spitting gasses 'up to your face', but however, they do it much more, only somewhere remote...advertising keep talking like,' hey, you see, just plug it in, no gasses, no polution, its cleaaaann..', with idiotic smile on the face of baby killer..when you start asking questions about from where energy came from, cars are 'fueled' with and how is it made, and is it putting more stress on to environment by power plants (massive power increase in case of cars used), they ignoring you or trying to avoid talk about it..I do have Segway, its small electrical vehicle, i use sometimes, and i did tests on it, and calculated how much energy it needs to be charged (input) and how much energy is stored, and then, how much of that stored energy in batteries, were actually transformed in to a mechanical energy of motion...results are very disappointing, and Im very convinced that electrical cars, at least cars we see advertised, are NOT way to go...just thought i could share my mind about it..

That the irony of electric car with a dash of hypocrite. So long one don't direct produce pollution, they consider them self "eco conscience (spelling?)" unless the human manage to somehow produce clean energy that as safe as solar power or wind power and having output as nuclear reactor, that for another topic.

Only recently electric car fad started again, but from what i see, not because of eco movement, nor oil price keep hiking up but from the super car fad. Tesla Roadster if memory serve. From then on company started to produce electric car for the masses.

Back on the topic, so long the people feel that they somehow contribute to eco balance, they will feel satisfied, the earth is safe for next generation. But at what price?

Random personal fact: From what i read, the only difference in current electric car and 100 years ago electric car is, the size of battery and travel range.

..exactly..also, adverts quite often talking about how 'electric engine is silent and never break down', while ignoring fundamental facts about both systems..also, ranges noted in any single EV advertising are, mildly spoken, false..they comparing all cars on flat, near ideal road/conditions, and i say..what about family, with all luggage, aircon ON and cruise then at 100 km/h .. NONE of ranges covering such, quite normal use, and reason is simple..petrol/diesel brothers beat it to death in terms of economy as well as environment friendly point of view..energy stored in petrol or diesel, sitting in fuel tank, passing trough less energy conversions that electricity, chemically stored inside batteries, therefore, amount of energy to get it move is less in case of petrol/diesels, simply because, equivalent energy for moving vehicle, must be produced at higher cost somewhere else(power plants), before is plugged inside EV..further adverts go is electric plug socked in your home/garage wall..I suggest, ask them about, just a little bit further than that, and their economy/eco friendly theory will sunk faster than Titanic..

i agree with all the points the both of you have given. not forgetting, production of the batteries for these electric cars produces more pollution in return. this fact was featured in TOP GEAR a few years back. And you can do a couple of googles to verify this fact.

I myself believe, right now, we're better of with a diesel powered vehicle to preserve the ecology. Diesel gives you the best energy output per litre of fuel then petrol, so you can save more of our depleting fossil fuel.

And knowing the out fossil fuel supply is depleting, i myself believe that the future of our automobile would be hydrogen powered cars. Hydrogen can be easily extracted from water. And the only by-product of combustion of hydrogen is only water vapor. In which, water vapor doesn't harm the earth at all. This technology has been used by Mercedes Benz on the road in germany. However for this technology to be globally viable, engineers need to come out with a way to prevent hydrogen from exploding when there is a leak during collision. With that settled, i truly believe that hydrogen powered car is definitely the future.

Please buy more silly hybrids general population, more fuel for me to burn :34:

Anyway, I had a chance to drive one of my manager's Prius... 1 word could describe the experience; boring.

To think that in the future there will no longer be the scream of high RPM's.. roar & flames out the exhaust.. that generation is missing something awesome.
