Dear sifus,I would like to seek some guidance on the following questions that I have on E90 battery life.1: How long does a battery last? 2 years? 3 years?2: Does the life of the battery depend on how we operate our car? Driving style, in-car equipment usage... etc3: What are the tell tale signs that the battery is about to go kaput? Sincerely appreciate the advice. Thanks

My E90 still on it's original factory fitted battery since 2005. Mine is CBU registered in Msia in Oct 2006. Already 6 years old and still going strong.Does not show any sign to go ' kaput' yet

Really bro?? How long have you ever left your car (for holiday or biz trip) without having the engine started? 1 week? 2 weeks? As we know, conventional cars with standard batteries will cease to work if the car is not started after 4 - 5 days.

My car is still having the factory fitted battery and its only 2.5 years old. I will be going away for a week long biz trip next month and was told by SA that its best to change the battery once every 2 years. Any truth in that?

BeemerX,

The longest I left the car without started is 10 days and it can be start without any problem. Even that was just end of last year where the battery life is already 5 years.

My 530i still have its original factory fitted battery since June 2003, no sign of its going out of service soon. Alternator has gone kaput first last year.

Forgot to add, when the car was shipped from UK i took the battery terminals off, and after about 3 months, reconnected the terminals and starts first time with no issues.

My concern is, unlike CBU units, mine is a CKD one which I'm afraid might not have the same quality battery as those fitted in the CBU cars... :-(

don worry 'bout it lah......

i left my e34 a good 7 days and it started fine on the 8th day......local battery...

On my E46, I've left it in the garage for 2.5 weeks and it started fine after my holiday. The original battery lasted me 6 years. No symptoms of low batt after 6 years, i just replaced it as a preventative maintenance routine.

On my E90, I've left it for 2 weeks without any ill effects. Started perfectly after that also.

How old was your battery when you left it for 2 weeks bro?

My 320d is almost 1.5 yrs now. For the past 1 year (till feb this yr) i start the car only once a week when i'm in kl and occasionally 2 week once. no problem so far..

On the E46 it was 5 years.
On the E90 it was 1.5 years old.

I don't think I have heard of anyone having any problems leaving the car and the car not being able to start. If not mistaken, read the manuals, the battery disconnects so that there is no drain on the battery. Don't know if the battery trickle-discharges though. I have left 2 weeks with the e90, no probs.

Hi there

My E60 failed to last 2 days with error "steering default error".
Tried to turn the steering wheel full lock to the left, then full lock to the right, centered the steering wheel and switched the car off and on again but still failed.

Technician came to jumpstart the car and its work.
He advised to monitor for few days else need to change the battery.
Prob still happens yesterday and today.

Shd I replace the battery or look for 2nd opinion ?
Thanks in advance.

Shd I proceed or

Marissa9,

IMO, 2nd opinion is always good.

You can try to send in to Ingress Auto, PJ.

Hello Will,

Thanks for the advise...the engine failed to start this morning.
I asked Despark to come and they found the prob is due to battery...
Changed to DELKOR DIN 88, so far no prob arise...
But they found my front RFT'S need to be change...
Again $$$$ melayang :)

You can decide for yourself when you should change by referring to the tyre "tread wear bar".

RFT are very expensive. I am using non-RFTs and keeping a portable car tyre air compressor in my trunk.

BTW, what year in your car made? And what's the mileage since last change of batteries and tyres?
