Should be alright I think..in fact, there are many different brake pad manufacturers out there who offers their products.
I've used many brands myself,no hal..

Yea our E90's use TEXTAR and JURID pads. BMW OEM's from them as an original BMW Part. So you got a good deal there.

BMW original pads can also be purchased outside of the authorized dealers at a discounted price. The delta between the orig (i.e. BMW box) vs OEM (i.e. the box says Jurid/Textar/ATE/Pagid/etc...) at spare parts shop is not very big.

Assuming all are genuine items, I wonder if the specification for orig vs OEM are exactly identical. While the physical fitting dimensions are identical, is the pad material composition also identical? I.e. all are 'soft' material with good stopping capability and similar temperature operating range (side effects = more brake dust but that's none issue to me).

at which mileage do we change brake pad?

Check your iDrive - it will tell you the km's remaining till you need to change the front and rear pads...

That's one way, but IMO the iDrive service indicators may not be 100% accurate. Mine shows 80k to go for fronts and 60k to go for rears, the same as the day I drove out of the showroom. I don't think highly of the service indicators, as I think they're only software counters if they can get hung like that. I don't think there's any periodic sampling of actual parameters, which makes them practically useless to me.

Rachel, as your warranty will be up soon (like mine) send it in for an oil change, at own cost if necessary. Ask your favourite SC to check the normal wear parts like brake pads/discs, bearings, shock absorbers, suspension mounts, engine mounts, belts, radiator hoses, battery condition, etc. Worth it even if you have to pay for the multi-point inspection service, because if they find anything slightly suspect, I'm sure they'll change it for you. I'll be doing the same in the next month or so.

Schwepps, What is your mileage now ? Do keep us posted what the SC change for you. TQ

I go for a "multi-point inspection service"? n pay on my own for it?

When the car was sent in for the door locks, i asked the guy to check for suspension mounts n battery. he said all ok. i take his word?

btw, under goodwill, warranty extended to another yr it seems.

I believe the warranty extension may only be for the locks that they changed.

If they're willing to do the checks for you for free, then you don't have to pay for it. But whether you can trust those checks, I don't know. That's why I would be willing to open a job order for a proper inspection service. Then they have to do it properly, and I would have cause to complain if an inspected part fails shortly after warranty. Warranty repairs don't come out of the dealer's pocket BTW. They're just like any repair job order, except that instead of the customer paying, BMWM pays. In fact the dealer gains from the workmanship they can charge.

My front pad was replaced under BSRI early this year.. replacement pad is TEXTAR.

Actually there are 2 sensors for the brake pads, one at the rear right and the other in the front left. These sensors wear down with your brake pads. Once worn down it needs to be changed. So it's not only based on mileage counter. But for Shcwepps case it sounds weird.

I'm clocking 36k km and front pad changed liao under BSRI together with the sensor while rear pad according to OBC, 19k km to go :stupid: but my visual inspection confirm no more than 4mm left. My rear pad wear sensor shall puncture any time now..

Does the sensor give a sample of the pad depth to the OBC continually to update the countdown, or is it just a trigger for a replacement alarm? If it's the latter, then what's in the OBC is still only a mileage counter.

The sensor is not just a trigger for replacement i.e. some older Porsche. It wears down with your brake pad and it sends the signal to OBC. But what I heard it's accurate to about +/- 15%, so visual checks still important and the sensors are not on all 4 wheels, so the wheel without sensor may have more brake pad wear but you will not know via OBC. Changed my rear 2 months back but my front is still reading 16K even after I have driven 60K. Why the front last so long??

.. both my front and rear brake pad physically wear at about the same rate with the front a tad faster. It just happen the OBC reported the front due for replacement, that's why SC only replace the front.

By the way, my car now has this grinding sound when cruising and become more obvious when tap the brake. Felt very uneasy. Front left brake rotor has 2 obvious lines indicating uneven wear of rotor surface. I wonder if that has cause the sound. Very lecer to return the car for more check up in SC because that equal to loss use of car and no spare car at home.. :(

Bro, your new rotors & pads need bedding-in procedures....
Have you forgotten to bed-in?

All I know now is my front left brand new rotor has 2 deep cuts and I doubt it has anything to do with bedding in.. :(

When I step on the brake.. I can hear "woow..woow..woow..woow.." noise and when no brake applied, same dragging sound but a lot quieter..

We have clocked quite easily 2k km on the new pad and rotor because done 2 sessions "Cheng Beng" at outstation one week after another. Whatever bedding in also completed lor.

In fact, bedding in is more necessary for new over old surface (new pad on old rotor). Now I on both new surface, so the bedding in should be a lot more quicker.

I can actually live with it because both pad and rotor are consumable and it get changed sometime in the not too distance future. But wife bising.. if I complain to SC now, what u all think will happen?!
