Dear sifus, as mentioned in the subject, beside the horsepower and torque, what's different between an 4 cylinders & 6 cylinders machine in terms of engine's lifespan and hassles? Any comments? Thanks.

sky ... The 323's inline 6 is silky smooth compared with the 320. Thats about it. It all deprnds what you want out of the car. If FC is something that concerns you, go with the 320d. I chose the 325 bcos I enjoy its sporty set up. Hated how the 320 handles. So to each their own. What do you want out of your car?

Bro tianci, FC is not my main concern. I am looking at less hassles as 4 cylinders machine's problems seems never ending. Most of the mechanic recommended me to go for a 6 potter which is much more hassles free. Is this true?

Sky, I was at the cross road in March but settled with 320MSport as 325MSport was beyond my budget and 323 Sedan body does not appeal to me although I do like 6 potter. Also, I use the car more in city than for long distances. ;D

It's untrue that 4 potters are less reliable that 6 potters. I had a Japanese 4 potter that served me well for 200k. No engine issues at all. Zero trouble.

bro tianci, i was comparing between BMW 4 potters and 6 potters, not with Japanese's.

Sky ... So far from all the research that I have done before purchasing a bimmer, I have never heard the 4 pot breaks down more than the 6 pot. There are tons of bimmer 4 pots in the market.

All time best selling model..., I think!!

Its a matter of preference, in this case : power. With all the power that you have, be it a 4 or 6 pots, V8 or V12 or any other configurations, IMHO it all boils down to how you take care/drive/push the car. Sure there are gremlins on both variance, but those can be sorted out. Proper maintenance means less headache equals prolonged lifespan, both for the car and the owner.

Treat her (the car i mean) as how you want to be treated. And enjoy your ride to the max.

gendong sums it all up well. Hehehehee ... last time I used to be into jetskis. They are 800-1100 cc 2C twin or triples. Tons of power. High performance. Treat them well and they last. Abuse it, they are short lived.

I believe so too ... seen so many e46 and e90 318s 320s on the road.

Just like the Chanel brand products.. they may be seen to be making dresses that cost £100k a piece despite losing £20m a year on the product, but their £20 fashion accessories are making them £3bn a year.

all time best selling model is due to cheaper price not bcos of higher reliability.......

Agreed but cheaper does not mean unreliable, I hope?? LOL

Bro..., it's true 6 cylinder r better than the 4 cylinder that what everyone says including BMW specialist. However it's also depent on luck too, I just got a 323 per registered zero mileage 2012 .., first day taken my ride and after 2 weeks of driving start hearing wired sound .... Went back to BMW since June I got my car they have not able to set a time for service. I'm still waiting, while waiting I went to BMW specialized (3rd party)center to check and all 3 center confirm my gear box kaput.

So conclusion better go for 6 cylinder and at the same time hope you are lucky to get a great car or u will end up finding means and ways to get BMW to attend to your problem. Nowadays German technology are not as great as what they claim.. Or I'm just unlucky .....

Bro, Sorry to hear about your ride.....

You are absolutely correct, we need some luck as there are gremlins with any brands.

Have you tried to write a strong letter to BMW Malaysia instead of leaving it at the mercy of the dealer?
