So this oil cooler has been bugging me ever since i bought the car.Stories(not many) of the cooler failing internally which mixes atf oil with coolant vice versa sends chills down my spine...

Tried DIY at home.So might as well remove and clean radiator.Yech it was dirty with a jazillion small stones and particles...

Radiator removed.View from top.Leaves and muck trapped in between rad and a/c condenser...

Tried removing the oil line from the cooler but too tight.Don't have the tool to depress the white release tabs so off I went to optimum auto the next day to have them replace it and this is what we found...

My coolant needed topping up by half a cup every week.So mystery is now solved.Glad I had brought it in....

This pipe change is a manifold off job....

pipe....rm340
oil cooler....rm370
labour....rm250

Happy that this was caught in time or otherwise this could leave me stranded if the plastic pipe decided to burst open whilst driving...

Convert mine to air cool type. But the person who did the mod still left the heat exchanger there. Planning to remove it. Any idea.?

bro...the HX is plugged onto the radiator...You have to find something to plug the radiator.I would just leave it there.my concern was contamination of atf with coolant....at least you have eliminated that possibility.

I prefer to connect the inlet to outlet instead of plugging it. This way the coolant will circulate rather than being stagnat anf causing the silicate to form at the bottom of the radiator.

But the problem is that there is no locking for the inlet/oulet hose. It is lock by the centre holder of the HX.
