Hey guys, needed some help over here. As mentioned above, my car has come up with the Restraint System Fault warning light (air bag and seat belt red lights on) plus the message in the I-drive display. Feedback from the workshop that i needed a seat belt tensioner replacement on the driver's side. Appreciate if anyone can help to get a good and one?

Had it once. Ask them to clear the fault first before doing anything else. May have just been a glitch. My passenger front had that once and I cleared it using the thingamajig. No problem since that happened a year+ ago.... (knocking on wood as I type) :)

Welcome to the club bro .. i have the same problem and still living with it.

If you have any mechanical damage , i think you cannot sort it out by reserting , unless its purely electronic glitch like bro desbimmer mentioned.

My error popped up after my son jumped to the front seat from behind seat .. so i guess something plasticy have gave way .. but yet to discover what is that , it could be the belt tensioner or the seat sensor matt , as they are delicate things.

There are many components may contribute to this error as they are interconnected. I seeked brother princevick's help to erase the code.. but it comes back after some time , untill we gave up .

I believe Bro IM have changed his seat sensor matt once and solved the issue. Wish we know what is wrong and change it straight away .

BTW , how much did the shop quote your for the belt tensioner ? and how did they conclude it ?

had the same problem as well,
but in my case, it is not the belt tensioner.. it is from the battery cable..
but still living with it, went to a shop in sunway and had them cleared the warning..
since part of the battery cable is not working, if any accident occurs, my car won't deploy the airbag.. at least for now until i replace the cable..
if i'm not mistaken, Mr.Prez is facing the same problem with me :D

It could be also the safety battery terminal located in the trunk. Changed my seat occupancy sensor and control unit under the passenger's chair. 3 weeks later the warning popped up again, sent it back and found out that there is high resistance from the safety battery terminal. Added a resistor to the terminal and it's ok. While driving, sometimes the warning on the dashboard comes on briefly (not in i-Drive) and goes off again.

For my case , i can outrule the IBS cable as i have just change the whole cable last year .

The problem was due to condensation / moisture that build from the ventilation flap ( just behind the battery ) and eventually some corrosion on the terminal . The error was ; the aircon blowing at min rahnge and seat heater cutt off. Diognosed with Gt1 and once replaced the cable.. all working fine .

bro E60Msport & Shiva, how much does is cost for you to repair it? and may i know where.. because the guy quoted me about 1k for the battery cable change.. but for now, i didn't change anything yet..

For the seat occupancy detector and control unit inclusive of labour is about RM1.2K. As for the safety battery terminal, I did not change it. Just added a resistor at about 2.75ohm so that no excessive current flow goes through.

Bro Syahmi ...

It was around 1.2k ( price may vary if you buy yourself , i heard around 900-1000 ) for the IBS cable and i changed at Naidu jln gasing ( happen to change my aircon blower there ) . Naidu got it from supplier and fixed it.

At the same time , i was told by other member that , the IBS consist of two component ( i m not sure what its named ) .The longer cable and another one is the small short cable that is linked to the IBS terminal. Changing the short cable alone will do the trick ( if u know the component name ) I decided to change the the whole cable as i saw some rust on the longer cable clamp.

Hope other sifus could explain on the two component on the IBS .

p/s : I have not rectified or change anything on the seat occupancy problem . still living with it and may opt for the bypass DIY if the diagnose doesnt really find the culprit ( after the bypass , the airbag will activate with or without passenger - cheap solution ) .

VP : Have you sort yours ?

If you are referring to me shiva, no I hv not and yes according to my mechanic, its the IBS cable. Having that changed will be a major job for my ride as I hv my rear trunk almost full with my speakers and wht not :4: .... so I just leave it as it is for now ... :4::4::4:

Waaaa.. Prezzz,,, must be heavily loaded trunk then . Mesti sakit jantung kalau duduk kat belakang.

P/S : Yeah i was referring to you and i made mistake addressing you . sorry prez

Tak mungkin tak ada 'Dangdut' ! :) tapi jgn lupa ' Santana ' prez

I still remember when i installed a 15'' base woofer box in the trunk of proton saga ( 90's ) , which it took away 70% or the trunk space and my dad was like 'WTH'.. the whole proton saga will be vibrating while full blast . LOL

I assured you bro shiva, definitly no dangdut. Santana, CCR, Uriah Heep and the likes, sure hve one :top:... :4: ....

Bros thank very much for the reply, ive checked with several workshop. Same feedback, need to change the belt tensioner on the driver side. Any good workshop to recommend? How much a for a new and used if anyone of you have experienced before?

Same shit happened to my E60, all i did was 1. cleared all the error, 2. disconnect battery terminal, 3. spray with contact cleaner, 4. put back battery terminal, 5. performed battery reset, 6. start the engine and restraint error gone till now.

Not sure if you are experiencing exact problem as mine. Hope this help!

sorry bro, still not understand your message, what you mean 1. clear error? how to perform this and 5. perform battery rese. ? thanks again

my apology for late reply, you can use INPA to clear the error stored in the memory, this step can be skipped if you dont have the cable and software. Battery reset - same as clearing error, you need a proper tools.
