To answer your question, (depending on which model you are getting 318-M43, 320-N42, 320-M54, 325 M52Tu/M54, 328-M52tu/M54, 330-M54 or M3-S54) some of the common issues (off my head) are :-

1) For N42 (first generation 4 pot valvetronic engines), sludge issue, premature coil plug failure. However, if these problems are rectified, then it should not re-occur
2) Transmission failure above 170k km, more so with the older models like 325 manufactured in year 2000/2001 and etc
3) Expansion tank cracking
4) Premature conrod bearing wear (M3, pre february 2002 models)
5) SMG Hydraulic actuator failure (325/330 sport limited edition)

Not all cars are affected, it depends on well the car has been taken care off by the previous owners.

As for maintenance, there are plenty on the list mentioned by Hellraiser. Generally, most of these shops can do the repair works as these cars have been around long enough for them to know and rectify the known issues.

As for me and a few other members, we go BM World at Desa Tun Razak. Price is so-so, but they are competent and get the job done efficiently.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

First of all, thanks for your info. I found the following thread long tima ago but the info given does not include address for most of the workshop. Still searching...

http://www.bmwclubmalaysia.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=46

It's a good idea to start looking for yellow pages, but I need to get one first... :top:

ps: I think I did mentioned a couple of times in this thread that am from Seri Kembangan Selangor. Am are excited and yet worried. Excited that am will be getting my very first UDM soon. Worried that am might not be able to find a good workshop to take cars of my soon to be baby.

bro, i myself use the list of good workshops and recommendations from the forumers/members during the tt sessions but it didn't occur to me to start a list.

i just have 2 mechanics. one to handles the more direct stuff and the other on the more technical stuff. this is enuff for me and both mechanics know my car history and what to be expected. no point sending the car to too many mechanics.

similar to doctors. do you need a list of doctors and clinic addresses in KL? there aren't many good doctors these days you know...hehe!

i can understand your enthusiasm but enthusiasm must also be supported by your own initiative...like getting first a Yellow Pages. This is not a directory club.

Cheers!

Hi there,
Thanks for such a technical respond. I think mine should be the 320-N42 as it is a 2003 CBU model. Am still learning about the UDM as I never own or driven one before. BM World at Desa Tun Razak seems close to my place. Can I have the address? I'll google it from googlemap.com Thanks a million :top:
Cheers.

I do understand that having too many mechanics are useless as we only need maybe 1 or 2. My initial plan it's just wanted to know the workshops nearby my place for some options and it never occurs to me that I can find them in yellow pages. I depends too much on the web info and forget about the yellow pages. my bad.

bro, get your car service near your place is a good thing but sometime the workshop might not be suitable for your car.

My advise is to find a reputable workshop who specialise in BMW. I stay in Klang and I travel to Segambut to service my car. I have used this workshop for about 12 years.

I have also used other workshop and I find that their workmanship ans skill in not to my liking.

Since you are not familiar with KL area, have you consider to get a GPS to travel around. Try Mspeed first. Some of the forummer have us them. You can shop around later if you are not happy with their service.

No worries bro. Do join the Official Teh Tarik session every second friday of the month. Lots of leads and info discussed there. Cheers!

p.s : you don't have to be an official member to join. open to all..!

Yup, I do hv GPS map on my mobile and I do know where MSpeed is from the googlemap.com. That's part of the reason why I'm joining this club: to get some insight on the list of workshops that most of the sifus recommand and service their UDM.

ps: BMW is going to launch the front wheel drive soon... read it from paultan website.
