People,As my car approached 100k kmh last december I got a little paranoid with the gbox and asked my machanic to flush out the ATF and the filter as well as the rear axle oil. It was very smooth with swift changes. Last month I went in for my regular service during CNY and Inspection II was done however petrol filter and 1 pcs power steering hose that was leaking was not changed as all part shops were closed.Yesterday, my super intelligent mechanic changed the 2 above parts and foolishly also changed the ATF oil, filter and axle oil AGAIN!! He could have easily checked my oil bill but with his "bawah pokok" shop with no specific filing system, he seemed to have missed it out. His response was "I did Inspection II"Firstly, would any of you pay for this unneccessary work(RM450 all in) or may be part of it to compensate himSecondly, any adverse effects of changing ATF oil twice in 2 monthsFor the record, he minused the RM150 workmanship charge but was insisting on balance RM300. ( I didnt pay him that either but a lesser amount)Looks like I have to write down everything and manage him too.Happen to anyone before??CheersRomeo

Which is why I am very specific about what I want my mech to do.... in such a situation, I would not want to be paying for his blunder. If he comes across any other matters which need to be looked into, he will always call me first before proceeding with the work. :beaten:

No way!!! I would not pay him!!!!

I hate mechanics that change things/parts without asking beforehand.
That's his own mistake. Even if it was a part that needed changing, he should ask first, even if it's just a small little rubber bush or something that costs 20-30 bucks. Anything major should always be cleared with the customer first.

Just tell him you have no money to pay for it and that he should have checked with you first...!

They cannot assume that you are willing to pay for it.

And,I can't believe he couldn't remember changing it 2 months ago!
Does he have hundreds of cars parked under the tree everyday?

guess selvam has been drinking too much then...

you shouldn't pay for his mistake la

Yup...youre probably right BM Chai. he looks pretty stoned in the morning and is a bit kelam kabut about whatz actually done on the car...

He then plays that "cover my cost" look on his face ....

He's getting a bit too much...perhaps its time I move on to another reliable and reasonable mechanic...in PJ.

Anyone got any recommendations......

ab change ATF meh? i tot they only change gearbox :beaten:
AB? They tell you the ATF is lifetime.... yeah, last the lifetime of the gearbox then change gearbox.

No doubt the gear change is much smoother after ATF change, recommended to all...change ATF.

YES..AB says gear box oil is for life, but not the gear box. ABs quote is RM25K for new gbox.

In comparison, parts mark up is comparatively lesser than places like Heritage or M1 plus workmanship charges are reasonable too. Bawah pokok mechanics charge less I guess.

I gave him a nominal amount for his mistake in view of his honest billing and low cost(to me) in the past years.

End of the day, I went to him for the work. I could have gone anywhere else. Plus its convenient for me as he's in PJ. Iknow Im just making excuses for my actions.....

Be clear boys about your repairs, especially when you have to return for completion of works. Our memory is much better than theirs when it comes to our cars.

Cheers and happy Friday...hic!!

Thanks BM Chai...

Have any of you heard about the new EX AB mechanic in PJ old town operating from a house...just started about 2-4 months ago?

Apparently he has all the electronic hook ups..

Cheers

romeo v12,

How's your gearbox so far? There are horror stories out there about gearbox failure arising from changing the ATF for the first time after the car has already covered high-ish mileage. Don't know true or not.
