I hv a smiliarly spec-ed car.

At that mileage and age - just drive it to a local BMW outlet ( 3rd party - doesn't have to be Auto Bavaria) .. and get them to check it out. Do a MODIC check to quiz the on board computer.

For the money you're paying.. expect near perfection int erms on handling, braking etc.. just drive.. .nothing should be too loose

Things to change are commonly bushes, lower arms, suspension, gearbox oil, etc .. all are wear and tear.. budget RM10,000 to bring it up to nice and new condition for your own comfort.

Look at how the car was driven.. it's a high mileage car.. watchs for scatches onthe body, accident repair etc.. usual stuff.

Lift it up and look for missing under body parts e.g. the panels under the engine bay tend to dissappear.. it's like RM500-1000 to buy a replacement sheet - but dynamically not much impact to driving if you stay below 200kph or so. You can reduce the car price if you see missing panels.

Check wood trimmings .. if there's any broken bits.. you can discount

Check that all tool kit are there.. especially the wheel nut.

phew .. PM me if you have more question. Welcome to the world of 193bhp and 280nm !!!

:) yup..best thing is to get the car to a specialist workshop and have them do a thorough check on the car.that way they can also tell what to change/renew and u can decide from there whether its worth buying..
anyways if u do get one let me be the first to congragulate u on getting a swell car.i bought mine about 2years ago and i'm very very happy with it.its a torquey car and so effortless to drive fast.the only gripe i have is not being able to get one with a manual gearbox..
having said that the steptronic is oh so smooth and u can still play with the ratios using sports/nudge mode..just ride the torque wave bro!!!

sbahari_s - RM145k for yr 2000 E46 328i... high! the average price seems to be between 138k to 143k

FOr RM145.. I wld only expect a very good condition E46... pristine condition.. bear in mind it's > 100k mileage which is HIGH

supergripen > we shld meet up for a Sunday cruise in matching MB52TUB28 !

:D cool!! we shud do that sometime..was hoping to be at the 3er meet org'd for the 27th but i'll be outstation la..isk isk! :(
yeah,rm145k seemed a bit steep..ask for discount somemore la.i got mine 2yrs ago for rm165k and mileage was 42k only.pristine condition..
there's not many around ain't it? cuz it was ever only in prod for 1.5 years b4 they intro'd the 325i? correct me if i'm wrong..no regrets though.

supergripen : how about this sunday?

Any other E46 328i drivers out there interested in a brief Sunday drive ? Can do a round-the-city tour .. and then stop somewhere for coffee and roti ;)

sbahari_s : maybe you can try out our cars to see how a E46 328i is like.. and use as a base.

my E46 not perfect either ;)

schone, the 145k is OTR + new paint for whole body. already have full original skirt + v-kool.

tq for your invitation. I will joint you guys if I have the opportunity cause I'm staying in Kluang, Johor. we will meet one day.

sbahari_s: your new 328i will get you up from Kluang to KL plenty fast ;)

also , check the condition of the rims... are they sports rims or normal 16" type 45 rims ( seven wide spokes ) .. type 45 are very common

Sports rims worth a wee bit more I guess

Original is good

what colour is it?

well.. at RM145k.. you'd better get it thoroughly checked through to make sure you're paying for the quality..

Please make sure the following has been changed or look out for these:

Water pump and hoses
Plastic spare radiator tank..usually cracks
Front bushes-squeeks
Head gaskets, oil filter gaskets

Other than this, its a super car...worth it as new owner paid RM265k for it. Enjoy it

Good one Romeo.. all of the parts that you mentioned have failed in my car and been replaced... all within 1 year of taking over the vehicle.

Very true about the panel under the engine bay - din notice mine was missing untl about 6 months later when I lifted the car to check the lower arm (which needs to be changed too! ).
