E46 328i gearbox ?

Any one know where can I find a recond or 2nd hand gearbox for my UDM ? How much it cost now ? Thankz.

i always find its better to rebuild your own gearbox rather than looking for a second hand coz u will never know the condition. u cant find any shop to rebuilt it? many shop offering this service in motor trader. what happen to your gearbox anyway

Hi Dumeort, my car same make as yours is still in the workshop since this monday, checked with them and told me yesterday was sent to a gearbox specialist in B.Caves.
Problem started with the car can't engage downshift low gear smoothly when pedal is floor.
So everytime have to kickdown to overtake, problem still unknown & no proper answer was given to me.
Apparently they r still checking on the gear valve body & the solenoid... still waiting for a positive reply.

What's the matter with your ride?

actually, when i accelerate the gear moving up smoothly but when the going down the gear that time ( I assume it is 3 to 2 ) there is a chocking sound behind the boot. When the accelerator needle fall between 1.8 to 2.0 (X1000) the sound appear.

Service guy ah meng said it's gear box problem. The sound is actually comes from somewhere below my seat. He said better don't repair coz the problem will come back.

Mouse, you think rebuild the thing will solve the problem ? what is rebuild gearbox anyway ...

apparently it's not any big deal coz it just happen in lowering the gear but as you know, in my city kuala lumpur jam seem to be unavoidable. Actually it's quite fed up. My last last ride, a proton waja also facing the same problem when engaging gear 3 to 4. But the chocking is greater. Result, i sold the damn car. I hope got ppl can solve my problem here.

bro, rebuilding a unit its like a recond unit (but using your own gearbox instead of a recond from other cars) but the quality of recond unit nowadays is not good coz they will open up the whole gearbox and only change the parts that they think its necessary, other part if they think is still ok they will not change it (save cost). hence, after u buy and recond unit and u trade in your own gearbox, they will do the same with your gearbox and sell to others like they sell to u. by right, when rebuilding either your own gearbox or a recond gearbox, they should change all the parts inside the gearbox no matter if they think if the parts is still usable. this will asure after rebuilding your gear box if not 100% like new also will be 80-90% new. but i am not very sure if they have a complete overhaul kit for your gearbox.

When can I find a good place to do this then ? Can the ppl in Motor Trader be trusted or I have to try anyway. From my previous experience with the proton waja, the eon service centre always claim the problem settle but it never solve even 80%. I dont think can bear the 2nd dissappointment.

go around at least 3-5 rebuild specialist to ask about their price and their experience in rebuilding E46 gearbox. look at their facilities and what kind of state of art machine they uses for rebuilding, this willl give u confidence in them. go buy a copy of motortrader, they usually have at least 3 big company in this business coz every issue also i see their ads.
