Need advise on the correct tire size for BMW 318i m-sport.The standard rim is 17".Saw some came with 245/40/17.dunno whether is this a correct size?

Correct tire size for e46 staggered wheel is front 225/45/17 and back 245/40/17

Guys..
Gonna get my UDM these few days...
The 17 inch in M-Sport is quite expensive.
Front RM700-RM800/piece. Rear: RM800-RM1000/piece.
The mechanic said the tyre size is rare.

He suggested me to change to 18 inch which is more common.
How much % underpowered from 17inch (std)do you reckon roughly?

1st,if u r to trade in ur m sport rims, its worth around 2500-3000,so dun get cheated...
my fren told me that...

%??hmm,maybe around 10%-15%...i guess...but its a bit heavier...

wahh..that expensive ha? thanks dude for the info....
10-15% is quite a lot..

i think 17 inch is quite common too rite.. it's just that I dont have to strictly follow the std manufacturer size. Am I right? Any comment from others?

What about non-staggered wheel? And what is the advantage and disadvantage of staggered wheel?

adv:
1. staggered gives better grip on cornering so can layan corner better.
2. from behind nampak very garang

disadv:
1. Can't rotate (front to back and vice versa) tires if you have staggered tire sizes.
2. Pricey. But many people opt for cheaper tires. Janji asal ada gaya ;)

Thank you very much for your explaination. So now the trick is to find a balance between $$$ and Gaya hehe

Sorry, i have to hijack this thread, since it is on the same subject and same chasis E46.

Recently, i changed my rims to staggered rim 18X8.5 and 18X9.5.
Current Tyre 235/40 , not suitable. I'm asking for opinion what is the right size for this.
I want the rims to be protected by the tyre.

This the front
Tyre curved in a little . Probably i can live with this.

This is the Rear
Tire curved in a lot , exposing the rim to DANGER

Thinking of changing the rear tires to :-
Rear: 255/35/18 or 265/35/18

Comments are most welcome. TQ

For your application: Front 235/40/18 Rear 255/35/18. Tires won't be able to protect your wheels because tire is soft. Whenever you rub against the curb, your tire wall will be compressed and thus you get curb rash on your wheel. Oh btw your m tech spring is not low enough. Get some coilover and it would look dope with your RS GT. Also you need to relocate your side blinker.

thanks for the advice.
will go ahead with 255/35/18 for the rear.
coilover order, will be installed sooon.
and, i know about the blinker. I managed to get m3 style blinker and side trim.
will do that too later. (lot of work ...plug the hole, refinish both fenders and open up hole for the blinker)
