Dear Big Bros & Sis,I am planning to buy E46 2.0 recond (unreg) model 2003 Japan spec with xenon light, new facelift, M sport package, bucket seat from AMG Gallery at Jalan U-Thant. Price offered to me was RM165,000.00. Just want to know whether I am making the right decision? Please comment on the price also.If I agree to buy, what are the check-points that I need to do, for example:-1. chane gear-oil2. change-engine oil3. not too sure on ECU or any electronic micro-chips need to be checked4. etc.FYI, BMW 3 series is my dream car. I am currently driving a Honda Integra 1.6 model 1992. Appreciate your advise. Regards.AkmalS007:)

Hey Akmal.. I know all that anxiety you're having.. Just got an e46 myself not too long ago.. :D If you're willing to cough out 165k, I'ld rather get a 325i. Huge difference. Sadly, I didn't.. anyway, that's my story.. :(

As for you, standard oil and filter change should be covered by your dealer. All other wear and tear parts aren't. So, its best you have your car checked thoroughly from head to toe. I sent mine to two places just so I can have peace of mind.

Not sure about gear oil though.. some guys claim that it last a lifetime and requires no change. I checked mine, black as charcoal.. changed it for RM600. Better safe then sorry :)

All the best with your purchase and lets ride sometime..

I believe Jsen is selling his CKD year 2004 for less than that, u can contact Jsen to see.

as you say its your dream car, you would be strongly adviced to get the 325i..real big difference..RM165000 should get it..

Hai All,
Thanks for the opinion. They sell 325 model Japan spec also. Year 2002
Bucket & electric. RM175000. So, which one to go for.
I guess the 320 E46 is 4 cylinders--> under power, 325 E46 6 cylinders--> more power!

More power = more (road tax + maintainance + petrol)
Since (road tax + maintaince + petrol) = $$$
and $$$ = fun
Therefore,
More power =more fun

165k? that's a bit high... a dealer quoted me lower for that model. you can even buy 325 i think..

Bring More Women:D :D

bro, 325i year 2002 CKD is only selling for 129K in the market lar. with 165K i think u can get a year 2004 or 2005 E46 325i, 192 HP leh compare to 320i which is 170HP (if not mistaken)

Yap Auto Puchong have a 320i E46 year 2003 at only 120K after discount. Or you may get a E46 328i year 2002 for all the BMW Power you want! Only 106K

Happy hunting... Very sad as I can only affort E36

I believe any 3 series would be a good entry point for future BMW owners.....later can save more and faster to upgrade to a Fiver. :D Sure need the extra space later for kids and stuff.

OK. If that's the case, I will do more hunting. So far I only went to 4 places Naza-Kg Baru, AMS Jln Uthant, Opp Great Eastern Mall KL and beside 202DC.
I am thinking of going to Ming Heng Setapak this w/end.
Anyone can propose any good bargain shop to go?

I'll rather my kids not have so much space.. easier to manage.. (besides the fact that I'm a die hard 3 series fan lar.. hehe..)

akmal.. try 012-3838076 (Wayne, Keong Heng Auto, Cheras) and see what beemers they currently have. All cars sold there comes with a warranty. Reasonably priced too. Last I saw a 325i '03 with plate no. NY1 sold at only 145k.

All da best :)

This will be the last person u would expect to hear this as I have 2 3 series. In term of materials used and build quality, get a 5 series.

Hi AkmalS007

I've just taken my unreg 2003 318i m-sports jap sepc 3 days back. i've seen the car you mentioned in U-Thant Ampang but I can said there are still better outside.

- 2003 CKD 318i ~ 13xk. You need to pay extra 30k for the unreg + m-sport spec

Unless you're very sure abt what you want (in my case is unreg facelift m-sport jap spec) otherwise you really have wide range of choices (e.g. 325i CKD 2004/5) with your budget at 165k..

I've seen more than 7 unreg m-sports jap 318i 2003 range from 165k-170k in Klang Valley. I did the following before putting downpayment:

1. Test drive
2. Verify VIN - important for buying recond CBU
3. Verify AP - preferred dealer's own AP & make sure custom duties is paid
4. Test drive & computer diagnosis by BMW Specialist mechanic
5. Request to change gearbox oil, lower arm bush & key programming
6. Ask for minimum 3 months warranty on engine & gearbox

I pay more for a complete car with original modded spec because really sakit hati seeing accessories shop to modify my new car.. May post my stock car photo up to share later..

Decide what you want and keep searching....enjoy...

Hi, can you tell us the name and location of the used car dealer which allowed you to execute the above before paying the downpayment?

Thanks.

I went to dealer in Cheras.. paid 1k deposit and got to do all of the above.. with the agreement that if its not satisfactory, they'll return my money. Plain and simple. Of course, their representitive came along for the ride and inspection lar..

AKMAL.. its holiday today man! You should be out there test driving not posting on a forum! The best way to feel the power is driving one. So many lar.. go go.. shoo! Somemore with your budget.. phew.. the choice is endless.. all the best.. :D

Dear Strat,
Too sad... I am working today in Singapore. Only do the searching every weekend, when I am back in KL.

Happy Holiday dude!
