Yes, it would be interesting to know how to remove the door panel when the door is shut closed with the deadbolt ON. I think this applied for ALL BMW rear door..

dang.... its my turn now...cant open from in or out !!:motz:

btw bmw7833, how cheap is cheap ?

what causes it to kaput? is it wear n tear issue or something inside suddenly snaps?? Is it advisible to do preventive maintenance here, meaning replacing it before time?

on my e32 i am having same issue, it works at times, but most of the time it doesn't. I am not planning to get it fixed just yet (not before engine transplant). But putting it on "child lock" solved the problem for me. If you ever manage to get that door opened, try doing this, it worked for me. on e32 you can get door panel opened from inside, there are few DIY step by step manuals you can search online. Not an easy thing to do, but doable.

The actuator is a small mechanism item. When something involve to movement, the item soon or later will be kaput one day. Not need to change them for maintenance la..Your mechanic knows how to replace them once the actuator kaput.

It is cause by wear & tear. The gearing get worn out and cause it to jam. Due to the jammed mechanism, the motor that is turning the gear/latch get over heated. No was to predict it as it could occurred anytime.

Here is a clearer picture of the actuator.

Borrow the picture from BimmerBoard.
