E36 VS Honda Civic VS Toyota Vios

New car definitely safer, but less exciting to drive/own than E36 or E46...

Maintenance of E36 can be higher than E46 because older and more thing to fix...

Since you ask this in a BMW forum.. many will suggest you to get the E36.

My gal drive a VIOS, myself ride the E36..

My personal view are..

1. I dont like Honda City Design.. (Love the Civic 2.0)
2. Love the design, and balance of Fuel Economy - power of VIOS
3. Love the road handling and highspeed ride of E36.

The cheapest to buy will be E36..
The cheapest to run will be VIOS as Toyota known for reliabilty.

Nothing like driving the UDM if money is not the issue. Looks like you have no issue as you are considering a new Civic. I would keep the extra cash for any repairs and the first major service when you buy a 10 yr old car (ie. budget nothing less than 5K if you think you are buying a car in good condition).
Once you drive the E36 you'll never regret if you take care of your "baby". Make sure you look at a 6 cylinder though and not 318.....more fun to drive and also be wary of dealers....better to get your ride from one of the bros on the forum (with service record).
That's my humble opinion......love your bmw.

If you are not ready to own a bmw and spend the money...just stay away. Just buy a vios or city. simple as that, no need to think so hard.

It is true what others had said to you. You going to spend a lot of money on the second hand bmw or any other conti car.
Buying an E36 is easy nowdays, but maintaing it is not so easy...need money and patience.If not, you gonna curse the car everyday.

Well, i think ur quite concern about the maintainance factor! If this is the case then u have answered ur question...I would say it comes down to passion and of coz the Sheer Driving Pleasure !!!

Honda & Toyota are known for reliablity but ori parts and maintenance dont come cheap either...take ur time, test drive the models u want t o compare. You dont have to go so fast, try all models at just a mere speed of 140kmh and you can tell the difference [drving pleasure]...

Do remember that E46 are more advance then E36 therefore more parts will fail u as times past. If you sayang your $$$ E36 is the best bet!! Learn from 'Anxious' be extra careful when you search for your car.

let put this way.. E36 318-328 97RM45k-50k then loan RM35k interest 5%-7% monthly installment RM500-Rm650.
E36 98-99 price RM55k-RM65k depend on the condition. instalment goes to Rm700 - 800/month. both u huv to plus RM300 - 500 per month maintenance but jst provision not actual.

Vios Rm77k -RM85k if not mistaken... pay 10% loan 70k instalment per month +-RM800-1000.
Honda Civic vtec 1.8 price RM135k emm.. instalmnet sure RM1,500...
then u huv to chose

Buy get a BMW only if you truely love the car. Otheriwse, you're better off with a Japanese car.

I have no regrets getting my 328i 5 years ago over the new Altis.

If you can't afford to buy one now,dun buy yet...well saves up the money then buy later when you got the money.
If wanna drive to show off....well, please learn more abt the particular models first.
