Hi guys, heres a description of the issue im having with my electric drivers window on my '94 318i e36 4 door, i hope someone can give some advice..... 3 weeks ago, the 'one touch' lowering and raising the window stopped working......... i left that to sort out another time, this week, the problem escalated, now, when raising or lowering the window, when it gets to full travel, the motor keeps on running and jumping the gears.... i cannot use central locking, as when i do, the motor runs and jumps gears............now, i have opened the door panel, and checked everything inside, there was a small stress crack on the window lifter, i thought i had found the problem, so, i drilled out the rivets, removed the lifter, and i had it welded up, its all back in place, lubricated and in perfect working order, but, the motor still wants to keep running when the window is either up or down, i swapped switches with the passenger side which works perfectly, still the same problem.......... the drivers side switch works fine on the passenger side, i dont think this is a motor or switch problem after my tests, is there a relay someplace that may be at fault?.... all the other 3 windows work perfectly....... central locking is also perfect (apart from the drivers window motor running) hopefully someone on here has some advice, i do try to keep the car in perfect order, and this defect is annoying!!cheers dave

logic

with a bit more research, i understand the motors in '94 and up have built in closing/opening logic............. tomorrow i shall price up a new motor, if anyone has any input on this, feel free to mention.

I think in your case the motor torque is faulty, as the window hits up or down the motor shud stop triggered by torque limit.
Change the motor or service it(not sure if anybody done it before).

That's a bit hard. Try run search for that item on the forum, who knows, somebody might be selling theirs.

Dear Sifus.

This is happening to my E36 96 318i also. The driver side power window auto down is working but the auto up is not. And once it reached the top, it still keeps on going. Is there any solutions for this?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Cheers and Happy New Year 2012.

you need to change the motor, apparently there is a halls effect sensor the motor shaft that gets dislodged/looses effect, anyway, the easiest way is to replace the motor and lift set, i found this out, you need to undo the whole assemble to remove the motor screws........ i replaced the set and its perfect now, the only hard bit is removing the bmw rivets that hold the lifter in place, i used a tungsten carbide tipped drill bit, then used nuts and bolts to replace the mechinisim.

Wow....

So complicated.......... Anyway will try to consult the mech.

Thanks a lot bro carlsberg.

Cheers.

its quite a simple job, cut shop will give the whole assembly, your workshop just needs to fit it, as i mentioned bmw for some reason used super hard rivets to attatch to the door, once those are drilled out, its 15 minutes to fit and adjust the new parts........... and, DONT slam the doors, usually passengers do this, more so if the window is down......, this is one of the reasons for failures......... the small magnet on the motor shaft can become detached..............
