Virgin post )My family bought a brand new E36 320 sedan way back in 1993 and it was a very nice car back then. It stayed with my family for a whole 10 years, we renewed the COE (Im from Singapore ) and for the past 2 - 3 years, I've been driving it quite regularly and learning how to handle the car properly (my experience has mostly been confined to a FWD EK9-R)It feels good and the car is relatively reliable. It has not been into any major accident throughout its entire life and needless to say, the emotional attachment to it is great for me, my dad (who is a car fanatic too). The car has been very stock from day 1. Not that I've not been allowed to mod to but my dad has always been saying if I want to mod the car, it will have to come out of my own pockets.Recently the 3rd son in the family (The E36) is not feeling too good, theres compression loss in 2 cylinders and personally I feel that its time to take it up to another level after driving E46 M3s which belong to my friends. In fact the last time we took it up to Sepang, it was great fun although its quite a handful with the DSC turned off The local speed shop specialising in Beemers have done a few of the E36 M3 conversion and they have been telling me its a relatively straight drop in without much headache compared to the E46 case. The issue that came up is cost and availability of the components required for the conversion. This bring my search up north to my friendly neighbours up north and I've been pointed to this forum by some fellow car owners who feel that I should get a 2nd opinion on this matter. So after the lengthyl background introduction....heres the main geist :1) Which workshop is recommended for this major heart transplant operation?2) Whats the cost involved?3) Components wise, is it available easily? The waiting time for the parts is like waiting for a kidney due to the small amount of people doing such conversions.I know this might not be the best option as some people keep telling me, want to drive an M3, must as well buy one lar!!!!! Financially its not feasible for me at this moment (im a young exec) and at the same time, this car has been part of the family for so long I feel that it deserves to be taken to the next level for the remaining 8 years of its life.Any help and suggestions is greatly appreciated!
