I just accquired '96 E36 and discovered the following 'problem' regarding the boot/trunk button of the car.1) The boot/trunk opens normally if the button is pressed. It miraculously even works when the car is locked! Therefore if I start the car and close the doors, someone can still go behind my car and pop the trunk/boot!2) The only way to lock the trunk/boot is to use my ignition key, by turning the key to the right, it locks the boot. This is very inconvenient. If I drop a passenger and he/she needs to open the boot, I now have to turn off my car and get out to open the boot/trunk!3) If all doors are shut and I lock the boot/trunk button, all doors will lock.I want the boot/trunk to lock whenever I press the alarm or lock my car doors. Is this a specific problem with my car, or have you encountered such a problem before?

hmmm... check the button at the rear. Is it in vertical 'I' position or horizontal '-' position. This could be the problem.

Just guessing here since I've never faced this problem.

Hi guys, thanks for the info. The problem WAS the actuator thingy. The bloody thing costed my RM185 to change...sigh.
