The brakes on my car are OK, but not as good as i thought they would be. I was expecting a bit more better brakes from a 328i. But they fell a bit short of my expectation. So.... i am contemplating on doing some upgrades to the brakes of my car.... but not too sure how to go about it.... :p :D So,What's a good upgrade option for e36s??Where can you get the hardware from??How much will they cost??Lets start with basic/simple upgrades all the way to upgrades that will cost an arm and a leg..... :p :D

Ah, then the person you are looking for is Dinan.328i, his 330 upgrade is very good!

So,

E46 330i for the front and E46 325/8 for the rear are your cheapest options. Got my front calipers from UK for gbp100 a pair many months ago, although i've heard you can get them cheaper now, but the shipping cost back will cost you a hefty bit. Might wanna give s'pore shops a call, but I wouldn't know where to start...

The rears are easily sourcable here. Not sure of the price though.

The other end of your scale would be brembo, ap, stoptech or the 12-pot tar-ox.

good luck.

Thanx Slide... Thanx Dinan... for the leads and insight...

Damn... Guys, from your siggys, your rides sound really awesome.... who's is faster?? hehe....

hahaha, yeah Dinan and i have a friendly competition going on and we're supposed to find out pretty soon who's the faster one, but for now, he's got the better looking car by a mile for sure.

i may have a front set of e36 m3 calipers with the euro floating rotors for sale

lemme know if you are interested, willing to let go, if the price is right.....

the m3 calipers will also fit with some minor mods, it's not a direct bolt on...

slide, you DO have the faster car. Looks standard but damn fast.

Fellas,

Looks like there's a fair amount of Reverse Psychology going on in this thread. BTW, just a quick thought - I'm able to get my hands on a complete pair of F/R E46 328i brakes setup here and am thinking if it's a worthwhile upgrade to my current stock setup ? Running on BBS 18s and there are times when I'd wish for a little more bite in em. Your thoughts, please ..

Cheers,
VaN.

hi van,

some data from my research...
(all in mm)
the E36 328i front brake disc measures 286x22
the E46 328i front brake disc measures 300x22
the E46 330i front brake disc measures 325x25

E36 328 rear disc is 276x19
E46 328 rear disc is 294x19

worthwhile or not, it's up to you...

Yeah u need to upgrade yr brake since u now on 18". Get M3 caliper n disc la(racun):p

Hi Dinan,

Thanks for the stats - I'm aware of them since I posted the same here a while back for another bro. Ideally, the E46 330i set-up wud be the one to go for for the fronts atleast but either way, I'm more interested to know how the E46 sourced brakes feel in real world driving situation i/o outright figures and tech stuff. Since you've already swapped yours, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Initial - no need to racun, la ... you know I've been bitching about my saucer sized F/R brake set-up for a while now. Worst still after switching to the BBS RXs. Yes, the E36 M3 setup wud be nice but then again .... the cost is another issue. Damn!

Cheers,
VaN.

On my current set up, I do experience a bit of increased pedal travel. The first inch or inch and a half is soft, thereafter it really kicks in. The braking now is no longer perfect. Standard brakes have the gradual feel. It's not as bad as it sounds...

There is a fix for this; upgrading your brake master cylinder pump and servo unit with ones from the E36 M3 Evo. Didn't take me long to get used to the pedal travel...

Mmm....interesting discussion here.
My Front disc are almost due for retirement and have ordered a set of ZimmermanSport drilled disc fr SG together with ori pads. Hoping to receive them mid Dec. I thought this would be enuff but after reading this thread...
I like my brake feel & hopefully this mod doesn't change it. However, the E46 330i conversion is a tempting idea...
Thanks for the information.
Keep it up, guys..
