E34 Service Light Resetting

find and open the diagnostic connector in the engine compartment. it's locatated near the left fender, black, round, plastic, and has a screw top lid. when you open it, you'll see a bunch of pin sockets with numbers located next to them.
turn you car on the "on" position, don't start the motor though. now locates pins 7 and 19. now place a wire between the two pins. count to 5 seconds and remove to reset the oil lights. count to 11 seconds and remove to reset the inspection and oil lights.
close lid, shut hood, and you should be done.

this is the procedure i use to reset my lights on my e34. for the wire, i actually soldered alligator clips on both ends. basically i clip one of the pins, and then just touch the other pin with the clip for whatever seconds is needed.
should not damage anything, but as always, proceed at your own risk.
