Anyone had their rear suspension bushings replaced/renewed?. I was told that worn down bushings in the rear suspension (axel carrier bush & trailing arm bush) can lead to a bumpier/noisier ride and also more pronounced negative camber. True? The replacement of the bushings is not expensive but the job is labour intensive as the entire rear axel & driveshaft needs to be removed to get access to the bushings. Anyone has had theirs replaced or renewed?. How long did it take and any difference in ride quality and camber settings with the new bushes?.

I have not replaced mine yet. But I had replaced the pittman arms or more commonly known as the dog bones, it will remove the "klak-klak" noise especially if yours is really worn out. Yup, the bush is cheap but labour intensive, saw one done on an e34 before. Do it only if you have pronounced wear on the tire.

Rgds

My experience was on the e30 (the rear subframe design is identical)where I had the axle carrier aka subframe bush, replaced. The symptom was noise. The whole rear drivetrain noise was transmitted into the cabin, which I initially thought came from the diff.

Don't know about whether the camber was off/not.

I took 1.5 days to DIY this @ home, taking my own sweet time.Subframe was removed from car and brought to a machine shop to have the new bushes pumped in.I did not replace the trailing arm bushes as it still looked good and solid. The subframe bushes was however, torn.

The result was tremendous. The loud howl at speed(120km/h)was eliminated totally.Yes it was labour intensive but I did it DIY because I like and enjoy doing it and not because I had to.... :)

Moots,
How much you paid for the subframe bush? e30 same as e34 ha?

thanks.

can't remember fr sure lar....i think maybe rm60++ each...for e34 lagi i dono...call bav auto lar and ask.... :)

ehoe,

Happy New Year!

Although I drive a small E30...I can share the following. Last week, I changed the complete front & rear bushes ( except the rear ARB ). The subframe bush was also replaced with a rubber one ( no PU on sale...) and it took an entire day....cos I also changed all trailing arm bushes to PU!

I was there assisting the mechanic and hence knew what difficulties this involved and can now tabik MOOTS.......the labour was not cheap at the end, which reflected the complexity as well.

Handling wise......I cannot tell cos I changed too many things ( incl springs ) but I did it since my 21 year old granny had not change hers "underwear" since new! ( since I also did the trailing arm thingy ) I had no noise before that either....

do it all together on the rear....best advice I can give u.

actually the trailling arm bush lasts for about 15years and for the e34 has no known problems.. only thing is the pitman bushes they help to correct the camber and the toe-in when you corner at high speed.. mine was fine after 9 years..sub-frame bush is also okay, just slight crack..

regards.

Noticed that my car's (E34) Rear Left side inner tyre worn out very badly compare to the right side. It is like 45 degree of worn out on the edge of the left tyre.

Found out that the pitman arm (dog bone/binocular) has got lossen, I can move them (left & right side) by my hand ! definately have to change the pitman arms.

Is it also time for me to change the trailing arms? Axle carrier arm bush?

Please advice & comment.

Thanks.
